Well. They lost my business, again.

Short abbreviated story:

Dish Customer for about 15 months. Called mid-January to cancel after deciding to give local provider Comcast a chance and save some money.

Sent boxes and LNB'S to Dish as requested by account specialist and got a prompt refund on my unused Dish programming for February.

Comcast install took place about 3 weeks ago, 2 HD/DVR's and 2 DVR's. Installer took less than 30 minutes to install the boxes and do the outside work to patch into my home wiring and left in a hurry. He said to call the 1-800 number to have them walk me through the orientation and teach me the "how to's".

Problems began immediately with one HD Box not showing HD's at all and the other not showing half the HD's and DVR not working. 2 separate service calls could not get issue resolved so bye bye Comcast.

Called Dish and explained that I was a very, very recent customer and that I wanted to return, was told to wait 6 months. After posting here and receiving advice I tried my luck again with another CSR who transferred me to an "account specialist"(AS).

AS told me not to worry and checked my old account and the fact that I had just about every monthly service and was a A+ customer. AS "resetted" my account and processed me as a new install. I requested the same exact programming I had and 1 622 receiver and dual tuner 625 same as before (I own a 211 receiver). Also requested a DP 44 switch and was told that Dish would "split" the cost for the switch since the install did not really called for it. DP 44 price as per Dish: $120, my share $60. Fair enough I said. Was told that since I was "such a good customer" that the $49.99 fee would be waived and I would receive free HBO/Cinemax/Starz/Movie Channel/Showtime, etc. for 3 months as well.

Was told that I would require a Dish 1000.2 Dish for my service. I inquired about this since I live in Orlando, FL and the footprint for this Dish says that Florida is not included. AS informed me that they had gotten this fixed and that this would in fact be the dish I would get. Fair enough I said.

Fast Forward to install day and lo and behold, twin Dish 500 dishes, no DP 44 switch and the map is correct, no Dish 1000.2 in FL. Dish 500 are used for 110/119 and separate dish 500 for 61.5

Called Dish and:

No trace of $60 transaction for the DP44 switch.
No trace for waived $49.99 waiver.
No trace for free premiums for 3 months.

After calling the installer's business Installer was told to refuse install job after Dish "instructed" him to produce a DP44 and re-send install to "qeue" for somebody else to do. After a waisted day and all the "I don't see this on your work order" from Dish I said, don't worry about it and cancelled everything.

Been with DirecTV for about 5 days now (please see signature below) and so far so good, all the boxes are stable and everything is running smoothly. By the way, the NASCAR free pass for the Daytona 500 was incredible, super cool.

HD's are all just like on Dish from an image and sound standpoint, I do have an excellent view of the south from my home and having just one dish makes my wife happy, the 5 LNB is pretty impressive, handsome dish "slimline" looks great as well. We'll see how everything goes with their plans for all those HD channels later this year (I do know about the SeaLunch mishap). Crossing my fingers. Thanks to everyone that offered to help with their inputs.

BTW. Anyone that might want my 211 receiver, it is in "excellent shape", shoot me a PM since I don't have a need for it and will sell it dirt cheap or something.

The long version would require copyrights !!!! LOL. C'mon guys you've seen worst...

Why even post this in the Dish forum. Are we suppose to join you?

Sounds like you botched your own Dish install. You should have made sure things were right before and during the install. Also, it appears you have no patience at all. Maybe D* can tolerate your constant personal dissatisfaction.

I'm sorry, but I was about to say the same thing.

If I was switching, I'd get the new service installed before removing the old service. Seems like a long road to travel to not be satisfied with anything that was done for you. I know everyone wants it all perfect, but you are a small fish in the pond, and you need to look out for yourself a bit.

Well. First of all, my story, is a compilation of several situations that occurred. I did not go into the die hard details of every phone call and actions taken.

BigThrust, your reply is appreciated and since you are not familiar with everything that occurred you are most certainly entitled to your opinion as I would think the same.

I am actually a very patient man and just wanted what I was paying for and promised. A total of 6 phone calls to Dish were not able to get this straightened out.

Dish Network is excellent once you get it up and running and as long as you dont have to speak to a CSR. For a year and a half it worked flawlessly, but is most dissapointing to be charged for something that you did not get or have them deny everything you were promised completely and have someone practically call you a liar, but, as I said, I only posted brief aspects of an experience I had.

I'm not saying that DirecTV is any different and I most certainly don't want anyone to join me. Posting in these forums is about learning and exchanging experiences and information about something we enjoy or appreciatte having such as satellite tv, cable, home video/audio etc.

I thank everyone for the inputs, good and bad.

P.D. Thanks for those who have expressed an interest in my VIP 211, have not sold it yet.

Welcome to D*. You might want to bop over to the www.dbstalk.com site and check out the HR20 section. There's info on how to set up the HR20 to show JPEG's and play MP3's from a PC. There's also notifications of when new early release software is available to download if you want to help D* debug the code and get early access to new features (like the toggle to make the guide come up first then the filter list).

Enjoy.

HR20's have to be setup? I thought you just plug em in and watch em burn.
