So for fun I went to some of the members "favorite" website only to see its up for sale
Yup...freedbs.org is up for sale!!
(oh shoot...now I have to ban myself for 3 days...that was the running gag for the last 2 years...you mention freedbs and you got banned for 3 days. Not really but it was a gag we said)
For the new members who might be confused, FreeDBS (or as some of us call it FreeBS) was this company who 3 years ago said they were going to create this 20 channel KU package that was going to be free. Well from the getgo there was something fishy about it. Lots of talk but never any updates. Then like 6 months later they'd create an update. The only thing they did was say at the time it would be between 80-100 degrees for the satellite. They really touted the Manhattan as the receiver of choice.
Originally they said there were "20 million" FTA recievers being used in the US...later that year they tuned it down to "1 to 2 million". Some of the channels they "thought" they were going to put up were the Networks from Louisville (they apparently were based near there), NASA and a "free sports channel" that would carry sporting events. A couple months later all those except for NASA was removed form the list and became more of just knockoff channels of existing types (you see stuff like that on Roku now)
Last update was a year ago that "they are still working on it. The wheels move slowly"...well I think those wheels are froze solid and wont move
In a nutshell it was a pipe dream and sadly they became the laughingstock of FTA
Here is the original thread from 3 years ago.
