I am considering the addition of another receiver to our home . Is it always necessary to have a separate input cable for each receiver? Our current receiver is fed from a pole mounted dish with a buried cable. I believe the answer is yes but I thought I would ask anyway.

Yes. Each receiver must have it's own cable. I always recommend, if you are going to do a pole mount and trench cable, to bury 4 lines. This way, if you needed to add more receivers than what is supported by the LNBF, a switch can be added at the house without having to trench more lines. You may only use 2 or 3 of the lines now, but if you ever changed to, say a 1000+ dish you would be covered.
