I have a Mercury II receiver with an Invacom QPH-031 LNB. My FTA reception is great across the arc with great audio on all channels except AC-3 encoded channels. I have the AC-3 optical feed going to my Denon AVR-2800 receiver (Dolby Digital and DTS capable). My Denon works great for all AC-3 bitstream decoding from all other equipment (DVD Player, Dish HD RX, COMCAST HD RX, etc). PCM (2 ch) bitstreams are heard loud and clear coming from the Mercury II through the Denon. I get a signal lock LED on the Denon for AC-3 channels but no audio. I have tried the following:
- Different optical cable
- Different optical port on the Denon
- Settings in Mercury II Menu set to AC-3, cycled factory settings, etc
- Different Channels on different Sats (with default settings for SR, PID, etc)
- Settings on Denon RX have been altered to just about every configuration imaginable
I am running software version 1.06 and have not attempted an upgrade.
Also have a problem with the video format selection but I will cover that in a different post if required. Video will not resize regardless of settings in Mercury II menu (16:9 or 4:3).

Any Ideas??

Setup: Fortec Mercury II S/W 1.06, Fortec 90cm Dish, STAB HH-90 Motor, Invacom QPH-031 LNB, Sony SXRD KDS-R50XBR1 connected via component video, Denon AVR-2800.

I also have a Mercury II that has problems with AC3 audio. Mine originally had the 1.06 software on it and I have upgraded to 1.29 and still cannot get sound on the AC3 channels. I have tried attaching the optical out to both my Sony receiver and LG HDTV and neither one works. Non AC3 channels work fine over the optical.

Catoer,
Any luck on the AC-3 Audio from the Mercury II? I still have not been able to get mine working. On the TV the sound is muted when it hits a AC3 stream. the Sony receiver make a loud clicking sound on them. Both work fine with Dolby Digital from a DVD and the non AC3 channels over optical from the Mercury II so I'm pretty sure it's somthing with the setup of the satellite receiver that is configured wrong. Does anyone have working AC3 from a Mercury II that can share what they did to make it work?

read ur manual agn..just can't remember what section..Ithink it was installation..anyway ,you have to set it to "on" for ac3 audio to work.

Having exact same thing with brand new Viewsat Ultra, their tech dept is supposed to be working on it. If you have a c-band dish you can swing over to AMC4, horizontal side, see if you get the Dolby Digital sound coming offf the comcast preview channels. I discovered that last night, my box seems to pass those just fine, but the others , like the PBS ku channels on amc3 , it makes no sound at all.

No luck I have the same problems with the AC3 on AMC4 101W. My SQ is between 65 and 70 on AMC4 C-Band at the moment. I have set the SPIDIF Output to On under the TV setup menu on the Mercury II...anything else I need to do to enable AC3?

dougruss,
What S/W and H/W version do you have?

Model: Mercury II
Last Updated: Dec 20 2006
S/W Version: V1.31
H/W Version: V1.00
Loader Version: V1.00

Thats the same Software version I have. Did the update the other day !

When you pull out the Tosilink cable from the "TV" ,is there light passing thru?

yes, I get sound over optical on all channels except for the AC3 channels. With the SPDIF setting in the menu set to ON I get the clicking noise on the AC3 channels when connected to the amplifier, on the tv(my tv has optical input) it is muted. With it set to OFF the sound is muted on the AC3 channels no matter what it is connected to. In both cases the non AC3 channels sound fine over the optical.

Are you sure your TV has an Optical Input? I have 2 HDTV's, and both have an Optical Output (for connecting to an Audio/Video Receiver), but neither have an Optical Input.

yes it definitly has optical input. As I stated it works fine for sound on the non AC3 channels from the Mercury II. It will also work with Dolby Digital over optical from a DVD.
