Niveus Media Centers to begin shipping with CableCARD in 2006
On display at this week’s International CES, the award-winning Niveus Media Center will begin shipping with CableCARD technology in late 2006.
Las Vegas, 5 January 2006 – Niveus Media, Inc., manufacturer of media entertainment devices for the high-end audio/video market, has announced its intention to ship its Niveus Media Center line of products with integrated CableCARD technology concurrent with the expected launch of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
The announcement follows a recent agreement between Microsoft Corp. and CableLabs that will enable consumers to enjoy one-way cable programming on Media Center PCs. The agreement represents a significant milestone, allowing consumers to view and record premium digital HD content without the use of a set-top box, while protecting cable operators’ investments in high value content.
“CableCARD has been of much interest to our customers and we’re pleased that we will finally have an integrated digital Cable solution to offer,” said Tim Cutting, CEO, Niveus Media. “We applaud Microsoft and CableLabs for reaching this agreement and are looking forward to offering this solution.”
“We’re pleased that Niveus Media will take advantage of the CableCARD technology,” said Dave Mendlen, director of Windows Consumer Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “Consumers looking for the ultimate TV experience will look for CableCARD, and we look forward to seeing Niveus’ integration of this technology with its passively cooled, innovative form factors.”
Microsoft Windows Media Center delivers advanced computing plus easy-to-use integrated digital entertainment, including live and recorded television, movies, music, photos and radio, that consumers can enjoy when and how they want. It provides a central hub for productivity and digital entertainment, accessible on either a PC monitor or TV display, using a single remote control.
The 2006 International Consumer Electronic Show is being held in Las Vegas from January 5 – 8. Niveus Media will be demonstrating a CableCARD-enabled Niveus Media Center at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Innovations Plus, Booth IP 242. More information available at: www.cesweb.org.
