For those who follow the NHL, here are the 2013 award winners:
Hart Trophy: Alex Ovechkin (WASH)
Vezina Trophy: Sergei Bobvrosky (CLB)
Norris Trophy: P.K Subban (MTL)
Calder Tropher: Jonathan Huberdeau (FL)
GM of the Year: Ray Shero
Coach of the Year: Paul "Paulrus" McClean.
Kraven's Beef:
How did Shero get GM of the Year? The previous year he's team finished with 108pts and the top scorer in the league. Any team w/ Crosby and Malkin should be expected to be Cup favourites every year. What did he do in 2013: sold the farm and got a a few rent-a-players by the trade deadline.
During the 2013 off-season: Montreal Canadiens hired Marc Bergevin as GM. Bergervin cleaned house and replaced ALL management personel w/ quality hockey people. Hired new coaches, trainers, scouts..and signed smart, tough and gritty role players.
Result: Habs, who finished last in the Eastern Conference during the 2011-2012, finished 2nd in the East and won their division.
Calder Trophy:
Huberleau: 48games 14 goals 17 assists 31 points.
Brendan Gallager: 44games 15 goals 13 assists 28 points.
Gallagher plays a "big" game at 5'8 as compared to 6'1 Huberleau. Gallagher had a bigger impact as the Habs go from last to first in division while Florida finished last in the East yet Huberleau gets rookie of the year? Makes no sense.
Cheers, K
