NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

Shanny isn't giving special treatment to anyone. Even Fat Albert!

“Albert has gotten away in the past with playing without practicing,” Shanahan said. “That will not happen under this regime. If he’s going to play, he’s going to practice, and that is the same with every player here. The days of him playing without practicing are over.”

Josh Freeman out for rest of Preseason with Broken Thumb

Josh Freeman's preseason will end after only nine passing attempts.

The Bucs announced that their starting quarterback will miss the rest of the preseason with a fractured tip of his right thumb. We're not sure if the quick diagnosis is bad sign for Freeman making it back for Week 1 or not.

Either way, this entire 2010 Bucs season is about Freeman's development. He's going to miss a lot of valuable work in the next few weeks, and the Tampa Bay franchise will hope that's all he winds up missing.

You guys put WAY too much emphasis on what happens in pre-season games. I know it's all we have right now, but some people are acting like what we see are absolute pre-cursors to the regular season. History tells us otherwise. ;)

Yup, I remember the year (1981?) the Pats went 5-0 in the preseason (they played in the HOF Game) and looked virtually unbeatable.

The Pats in that particular regular season? 2-14 :o

I agree Bill, and I'm not even talking about record. Even the so-called 'first team vs. first team' are never actually what they seem. The relationship between any part of pre-season and the actual regular season is barely recognizable.

I tell you what. This Browns squad is going to have a much more POWERFUL run game than I expected. If anyone remembers Jerome Harrison at the end of last year, well, that was a hint of what is to come. Only we ADDED bruiser Peyton Hillis & Montario Hardesty (Tennessee) to the mix! Couple that trio with one of the best FB's in the game (Laurence Vickers) and a less than appreciated offensive line anchored by Joe Thomas, Alex Mack & Eric Steinbach and you kind of see my point!

GAWD, I can't wait until week 1!!

That running game against the Buffalo run defense- a mismatch of epic proportions.

I am not looking forward to week 14.

Let me add on to thatby pointing out that the 2004 Patriots had a 1-3 preseason record.

In the games that mattered- 14-2, plus three playoff wins to hoist the Lombardi.

But for me, the granddaddy of all preseason/regular season win differentials is the 2008 Lions. 4-0 in preseason, 0-16 in the games that counted.

And it's quite likely even their 'first string' looked good against the opponents 'first string'. Then they started playing for real. ;)

Perhaps Tom Brady would be offended by the salty language too.

Sandra

I doubt it. I'm sure what Belichick says in practice is probably along the same lines as Ryan.

Maybe one day Bill will let his true felling be known about St. Tony, for now it is up to the fans to come to their own conclusions.

I know I should probably post this in the Sandra/Salsa merry go round thread, but WTF. I find it funny that Dungy never had a problem working for Bill Polian, who is known to go on profanity laced temper tantrums when things don't go his way.

Polian is also known for creating his own rules to fit his team. ;)

Watching the Cardinals play the Titans right now. In my biased opinion, the teams I find most interesting this season are(in no particular order except alphabetical) the Denver Broncos(because I want to see what Tim Tebow does),the Miami Dolphins(because of the wildcat),& the Tennessee Titans(because of the ultimate wildcat player,Vince Young,& Chris Johnson).

1st team offense vs. 1st team defense. Neither team showed any fancy plays and it was brute strength vs brute strength....and the Lions had more. I judge my team during the preseason on how my team's 1st squad does against the other teams first squad. It has NOTHING to do with wins and losses in the preseason because the COLTS have a 9-22 record during the preseason in the last 7 years...during that same span, they have a record 7 straight seasons with at least 12 wins.

So yeah, preseason records mean nothing, but how your 1st team does against their 1st team means alot. Regardless of history....

Your right Salsa, the Steeler's O line looked terrible, as usual, they have never been know as having a very good line.
The Lions are getting better and better, now that the Millen Error is over.

I think I like the Steeler's 3rd string team better yet, Dixon is looking pretty good, of course it's against the other teams 3s as well.

I'm wondering if they are ever gonna give Dixon a chance to play or not ....

Better watch out...some people think the preseason games are not good enough to evaulate how good your 1st team is vs other teams 1st teams are....

I really like that Dixon kid and I think he will be the #2 QB very soon. I would somewhat agree that you will have start the season with some veteran QB leadership to get you out of that hole of a suspended franchise QB. I have a strange feeling if that Dixon kid ever got a chance to start some games, he can be very exciting to watch. He reminded me of a young Randall Cunningham.

As far as my Raiders are concerned....their 1st team offense and defense totally dominated the Bears team...AND the Raiders defense did not play Seymour and Nnamdi. They got 4 sacks from Kamerion Wimbley(in the 1st half) and 7 total.
Jason Campbell look good in steering a few scoring drives.

A very good test for most teams will be one everyone's 3 game of the preseason when the starters play most of the game. The Raiders play a very good 49ers team....there we will see where the Raiders are to start the season. The END RESULTS do not interest me as opposed how the 1st teams on defense on offense against the 49ers 1st teams.

Taking my daughter to her first ever Pats game against the Rams Thursday night! :up

That should be fun. My daughter and I went to the Raiders/Dolphins game a few years back when the Raiders had Culpepper at QB. She wore her pink Raiders T-Shirt and even went as far as putting on eye black! LOL! I warned her about the possible foul langauge....but she is a trooper. She stated "nothing I have not heard from you after a Raiders loss...." :o:D

Enjoy because time flies so fast. She was 8 back then....
