NFL 2017-18 Season

If I am the Browns and I can get Foles for a 2nd round pick, I do that all day long. Same goes for a few other teams.

The Eagles are sitting pretty right now. I believe they signed Foles to a 5 year back up QB contract so they have control of him. They can keep him as a solid back up or trade him to the highest bidder in need. I wouldn't take anything but a late first round pick or multiple picks for him this off season.

Under current rules they just needed to determine if he was a runner or not, that made or broke that catch. Because of his angle if they said he was going to the ground to make the catch (he instead lept after 3 steps) then he would have had to survive the ground as he was not yet a runner.

Both stood, which is likely how they'll need the write the rule. (or was Ertz confirmed?)

Replay should be designed for the plays where it is obvious that the outcome should change. The 80/20, 90/10 calls where it could go either way or it can be explained or leaned one direction or the other should yield to the call on the field.

That's a hard sell and will be just as confusing, IMO, in the age of 4k slow-mo and an easily accessible social media mob for any given side.

Cousin won $200 by Foles catching a TD... 40/1 odds, lol.
If you have control (that' gonna be another Grey area), and take a step or move forward, you are a runner.

Eagles were smart about how they used Foles. He was comfortable with RPO and they didn't try to change him into something he wasn't. Problem with some teams they try to make QB fit into offense instead of offense fitting QB.
I did think the Eagle TD where receiver bobbled ball was incomplete. Not sure how they missed that call with instant replay.
NFL just changes rules on the fly,,,Very frustrating. The TD where WR dives across goal line was correctly called because he made a clear secondary move turning into runner.

A catch is a catch. The NFL has to stop being so precise about football catches and plays . It takes the fun out of a game with every replay . The Eagles need to keep Foles . Carson has a pretty severe injury and you never know what the outcome will be . I always liked Nick and couldn’t believe when chip traded him for Bradford. Chip was paid to destroy the Eagles.

I read one thought during the game that I could kinda agree with... basically it was along the lines of you don't usually change something when everyone's played a bunch of games, but once the playoffs start everyone's 0-0, allowing you to make adjustments that don't mess things up competitively..

They could go w/ the college rules for all I care, just need to figure out a way to make this a more precise measurement of success.

Yeah. I don't see how calling catches the correct way was an issue, unless one was a Patriots fan I suppose.

AMEN ....

If you don't drop the ball, have control of it and are inbounds, its a catch.

But lets not get so technical on control either ... if you have it, you have it, call the play on the field as you see it, not looking at it at 100 frames per second instant replay.

Yup, highest paid player will always be the last franchise QB to sign a deal. Goff is probably going to get $150m from the Rams in 2020.

Salary cap should get another nice bump in a year or so with the new content deals.

I was at the Eagles parade yesterday and I heard that he was the highest paid player in the NFL . I didn’t even know who he was . Tom Brady former back up quarterback. Looks like everyone watching the NFL will be paying for this one.

Yeah, pay doesn't equal talent. In fact Brady has taken less than market value when his contract has been up in the past to help build his team.

It's just as much a supply and demand issue when it comes to the franchise QBs. Cousins, Manning and Brees-class QBs don't hit free agency very often. Not saying Cousins is headed to the HOF or anything, but there's not really any dispute that he's a franchise QB, and he's going to get a huge payday himself as someone tries to build a team around him or feel he's one of the final pieces of their puzzle to be successful.
