I am obviously new here :) I do belong to another forum of a different subject, so I know they can be great. This one seems to be top notch.

We recently dumped Xfinity, man...they/it was terrible.

DISH has been (only a week or two) super so far, outstanding actually. But, our hopper has been freezing, like 5 or 6 times in the last 2 days. I don't want to unplug it or reset it , because I have no idea if that's what I should do ? I know the answer's are here, just havin a hard time finding, and understanding.

Is there a thread that explains all the acronyms ? Or a walk through of a reset, etc. ?

DO NOT be afraid to unplug or reset. They cure a wealth of problems from time to time. In your case, do a power re-boot (pull plug for about 10 second). A Reset is done by holding down the red reset button.

Now I feel better...was going to do that, but as a kid we had satellite and I remember it being very "finicky", I just didn't want to do the wrong thing. I thank you !!

Aging, especially cheap, power strips may have been hit too often by surges and no longer offer much protection, but now add "static" to the line themselves. Same can be said for the surge circuits in some UPSes.

I will bypass, then replace our surge, it is fairly old. Hopper is still freezing daily. Will post back after a couple days without the surge.

Move programs to new external hard drive
