Hello everyone:

I live in Fredericton, NB (Atlantic Canada, Lat 45d56'N, Long 66d38' W) and I wanted to have some Spanish channels that broadcast from Latin America for an extended visit from my mother over the summer.

This is the gear I was suggested would work and purchased at a local store:

CoolSat 6000 reciever, Digiwave 33" Universal Dish (Offset Ku Band as per their website www.digiwavetechnologies.com) and Digiwave Dual DSS LNB (LO Freq 10.750).

So SatMex 5 (116.8 W) looked as a neat option for FTA spanish channels lineup, then I tried PAS 1R. I haven't been able to get anything out of it on my receiver (reciever works ok with my Bell Express VU dish aligned at Nimiq 3 and their FTA channels), the Level in the screen its all the time in the 80's and quality hoovering between nada and 7%, although it seem to be that way no matter wher I point the dish. For my lat long, I got on this website (http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm) the following information for SatMex 5:

Elevation: 18.3 (fairly good line of sight from the my roof)
Azimuth: 257.6 (magnetic compass)
Polarization: 36.6

For PAS 1R:

Elevation: 33
Azimuth: 169.7
Polarization: -19.6

A fella from a Satellite installation company told me that I would need a 1 meter dish to get SatMex to work for us and that he could order one for me. But before I dive into bigger and better, would anyone out there have any good tips I should try first, perhaps even a recomendation to another satellite that might have a stronger signal for this area with some Spanish channels.

I don't remember having so much trouble setting up my dish for StarChoice a few years back... but then again it came with a manual...LOL

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thanks Iceberg, I'll look that one up.

Elevation is 26 (clean line-of-sight from my roof)

Azimuth 152.6 (same here good LOS)

Polarization -30 (would this mean the LNB tilted between 1 and 2 o'clock when facing the front og the dish?)

So from my location how far east can I go (I thought PAS 1R at 45W was pushing it?) any other birds from Europe I could pick up from this neck of the woods?

Cheers,

Tino

Not Europe because the satellite beam is only over Europe : (

-30 skew would be (if the coax plug for the LNB faces down) at about 4:00, not 1:00

Still looking for my Satellite

I wonder if my LNB ( or the configuration on my Receiver) is affecting the search for Hispasat 30W that Iceberg suggested.

My Coolsat 6000 Receiver has a preconfigured setting for this Satellite as follows:

Satellite: 30.0W Hispasat 1CD
LNB Power: On
LNB Type: Universal
LNB Freq.: 9.750/10.600
22 KHz: Auto
DiSEqC Switch: Off

Since I have a Digiwave (DGL 990D) DSS Single LNBF, Input Freq. 11.7-12.2 GHz, LO Freq. 10.750 GHz, I change the above settings to this:

LNB Type: Single
LNB Freq.: 10.750

I tried locating the satellite, but I kept getting Level in the 80's and Quality no higher than 7%, although these numbers stay the same no matter where I moved the dish.

It was a bit cloudy I must admit... but then again... my Bell Express receivers are doing pretty darn good with the same weather and with a smaller dish.

Thanks again for the assistance! Have a nice weekend everyone.

Cheers,

Tino

The numbers you posted above jive with what I show

setup would be
LNB Type Single
LNB Freq 10750
Diseqc & 22k off

What transponder do you have shown? You need an active one

Here is one that is active (Cubavision)

11884 freq
V polarity
27500 symbol rate

If it isnt listed, go to manual scan and add it :)

make sure the LNB is skewed or signal wont come in

From the front of the dish the LNBF should look like the below picture (From Sadouns skew page)

Code:
          Latitude 46° 0.000'N Longitude 67° 0.000'W

Sat Name Sat Lng Az(t) Az(m) El Skew
--------------------------------------------------------------

                  Hispasat 1C/D 30.0W 133.7 153.3 25.9 -30.2
