We got 75 mph winds from Ike-- tons of power outages but thankfully nothing worse. But after the wind died down, we were only getting locals and some random other channels. I was getting a strong enough signal from 110 but nothing from 119.

So of course I think I can fix it and I get on a ladder and move stuff around and get nothing. So I put it back to where I thought it was and on 110 it gets reception but it says its the wrong satellite -- 119 west.

Called Dish Network and nobody can come till Monday.

So -- any advice on how I can get channels back for the weekend.

Thanks. And looking forward to getting into this great forum.

Your dish is still misaligned in all likelihood. The 119 signal is probably being captured by the 110 lnb. Try moving your dish to the left just a little at a time. (I think I have the direction of movement correct). You're supposed to peak on 119 and if the skew is correct that should also give you the 110 sat signal at good levels. If you don't have a meter, use a small portable TV connected to the receiver outside where you can see it when doing the dish pointing and use the built in meter.

Here's installation instructions for a Dish 500:

Can you hear the audio from your TV at the dish when its cranked up? If so, get on tp11/110 with your receiver. Move the dish SLOWLY up/down, left/right. When the tone goes up you're on it. The higher the tone the stronger the signal. Another option if you can't hear it at the dish--use a cell phone and have someone guide you from inside. Good luck!

Keep in mind that some receivers, when you move the Dish around, will not register the satellite signal again until you flip the Satellite or Transponder setting on the Point Dish screen back and forth.... don't know why, but it is annoying when your meter stops working and you have to climb up and down over and over trying to find the satellite and you can't hear the tone coming from the receiver even when you KNOW you're pointed at a satellite....

Thanks so much guys. It turns out I had the elevation wrong. I knew what it needed to be but I couldn't figure out how tell what elevation the dish was set at -- I was trying to line up the center of the elevation adjustment bolt with the elevation I needed. Finally I noticed that the edge of the metal piece you screw the bolt into is what you line the number up with -- I had been around five degrees off. That explanation is probably incomprehensible but the bottom line is -- I got it fixed so I'll have TV all weekend and won't have to drop $30 + tip for a service guy to come and move my dish an inch. So thanks for the help.

L5.30 software for the 625 dvr?

Are these signal strength readings good or bad for Dish 1000?
