One of the amazing things about the Xbox LIVE experience is that it’s always getting better. The upcoming August 11, 2009 Xbox LIVE Update truly cranks it up a notch – with features that improve your entertainment experience and give you new ways to express your individuality and connect with friends. With this update, you can download full Xbox 360® games and play them without a disc, and you and your friends will be able to party watch movies online through Netflix! Dress up your avatar to impress with premium props and branded apparel from fashion labels. And this update allows every piece of game content on Marketplace to be rated, so add your personal ratings and see what others think is cool. But that’s just the beginning. Check out all of the new features of the Xbox LIVE Update below.

Games on Demand
Enjoy the convenience of finding and buying new games right from the comfort of your own living room. Download a wide selection of full Xbox 360 games over Xbox LIVE. Games on Demand will be available for purchase on Xbox LIVE starting August 11 as part of the Xbox LIVE Update. You will be able to browse and purchase games through the Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web starting August 13.

Shop- Games on Demand are found in the Game Marketplace and include a large library of favorite titles right from the start. More titles are added every Tuesday, so check back whenever you’re in the mood for a great new game.
Purchase - Purchase full games using Microsoft points or a credit card. Games are downloaded directly to your console (hard drive required), and your purchase history is stored by Xbox LIVE, meaning you can delete games and re-download them again if you run out of space.
Playing and Sharing - As with other LIVE content, your game license is linked to your Xbox LIVE account. Download your purchased games to any console you are logged into with your Gamertag, and anyone else can play on the console that your game was originally downloaded to. No physical disc is required to play these games!
Find Manuals - Game manuals can be viewed, downloaded, or printed from Xbox.com. Just locate your game in Web Marketplace and select “See Game Manual”.

Apparently they also did some tweaking to the game installs where now installing games to run from the HDD (ones that are under a certain size) are much smaller than they used to be.

It's also cool that you can online purchase and download a game to your HDD.....then delete it....... and go back and download it again (for no additional cost) if you decide that you want to play it again.

Except that they are horribly overpriced. $30 for Call of Duty 2 is completely inexcusable. It's comparable to the $10 NES/SNES/whatever games on Wii except worse cause we're buying games for the current system and they're being offered more than their retail price.

That's what I was thinking. I looked at the cost for the Lego Star Wars game. It was $30 to download. It was $17 at Gamestop.

I posted this on an xbox forum but during the beta this "update" gave me RROD... I realize a small people are going to get it regardless but it sucks that I was playing a game, got the message "You have been selected for a dashboard update," hit ok, rebooted, and was dead.

That said I'm looking forward to trying some of the new features in 3-4 weeks :)

There is also a number on your gamercard that is supposed to represent the number of years you have been on Xbox Live, but it isn't correct. I don't have a number at all on mine and I have been on Xbox Live for 5 years now.

The Major posted a blog about this this morning. Some of your Xbox LIVE Tenure questions answered - Xbox Live's Major Nelson

Q. My tenure is not displaying at all!
A. The Gold Tenure is being rolled out to all Xbox LIVE users over the next few days. By next week, everyone who has at least 1 full year in Xbox LIVE Gold status will see their tenure.

Love the new Netflix update. The party thing is kinda stupid but the ability to see some of the movies on the box that are not in queue is awesome. Like the Roku, you can now see which shows are HD. And the new rebuffering code is awesome...very impressive, it steps down the quality instantly with only a split second delay, and even steps back up when your bandwidth comes back..all without pausing the video! Very cool!

you can change the party view but still talk to your friends.

I do like the speed upgrade my system has received. Installed games seem to boot up much quicker and I'm not bogged down with friend notifications.
