Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong thread but in my defense I am a Newb.

My friends Dad has a CNX Mini and he gets FTA in his house which is about four blocks away from mine.

I told him I was interested in getting one and he told me that all I had to do was get a Conaxsat receiver and a dish network satellite or a new set of "eyes" for an old Directv satellite that I have.

All i know is on his tv he has hundreds if not thousands of channels and hell I want that too.

Is FTA really that easy?

uh no. what they are doing is STEALING. (and not condoned nor tolerated here)

Dish Network is a subscription service and you need to use their equipment. To enjoy FTA you need a 30" dish and a KU Band LNB.

I think you are confusing the term FTA with "want to steal"

Here's a site with the popular FTA satellites listed.
Look over what's available on 123°, 97°, 101°, in that order.
Or, maybe 125° if PBS is more your style.

There's a lot more to real FTA, but that should get you an introduction.

Ok..That actually helps me somewhat..I have a pole in my front yard on which has sat Direct TV and Dish Network Dishes. So I could put this 30" Dish and a KU-Band LNBF (with a motor )and get a lot of the major English FTA stations? I rent and can't really do the 2-3 dixh thing a lot here seem to do..(unless I put 2 dishes on the pole, which I used to do In my E* 61.5 days..)

Yes . that is correct.
Hope you take the FTA plunge , at Satellite Guys we have many members that are eager to help you get setup.

Welcome to the site , on a side note you can start your own thread in order to keep responses seperate from those that replied earlier.
Nice to have you here , good luck with your FTA adventure.

Look at Sadoun's "M-2" motorized kit for a good example. You definitely want to upgrade to a 36" / 90CM dish.

Start a new thread about your install and we can give you more recommendations. Either bundles available from the gold sponsors or what individual parts to look for used.
