Hello,

I just subscribed to Dish last week. I'm still getting used to the differences from Tivo. (I really miss the constant 30 minute buffer on live TV)

I had 2 recordings scheduled at 7pm on my 722. I'm positive they were for the HD channels for my local CBS and ABC stations (from the sat not OTA). However, when I watched the recordings, they weren't in 16:9 format. Can the 722 not record two HD shows at once?

The Live tv buffer is 1 hour as long as you don't change the channel. Also, HD channel does not mean HD program. Did the non-HD show have black bars on the side? If it did, you got a non-HD program. Since you did not list what time zone you are in, but in the Eastern Time Zone, the program on ABC is AFV and is not an HD program nor do I believe that Extreme Makeover is either (not sure since I do not watch that program). Note, if you have OTA hooked up as you mentioned, you can record three HD programs at the same time, two from sat and the third from OTA.

Local channels usually only broadcast HD in certain time slots, we have locals here that only air local news and primetime programming in HD, the rest of the day, it is SD

Ah, I see. After a little more research, I found that both shows (Big Brother and Extreme Makeover) are not HD.

About the buffer. Here's my example:

The other night we recorded American Idol. Fox does strange things with this show and it ran over by quite a bit. The recording cut off about a minute or two early (even with a 3 minute padding on the end). We watched it semi-live. The channel hadn't changed yet, so I pressed the live TV button, but there was no buffer. On my Tivo, I could do the same thing and rewind the buffer to see the tail end of the show that cut off early. It's not a deal breaker, but nice to have. I'll learn to live without it.

Just extend the recording in your options screen for that event, my wife likes to watch some show on CBS on her 625 in the bedroom, but CBS does wierd things with their programming too, running them over their scheduled times, so she just extended her recording time and the deal was solved.

lol my wife complains about oprah everyday not being in hd 16x9 i here that every day and greys goes past the recorded time... adam is right just add an extra 5 to 10 minutes to be on the safe side for some programing that keeps cutting off...thats if you dont want to hear nagging cause i do, but i only hear nagging now for the oprah show.. but there is nothing i can do about that.

Why are the VOOM Networks so bad?

DISH HD only package question
