The hardwire capability is primarily what drew me to the Roku 3. I'll be damned if I'm going to spend big money on a fancy dual-band router.Looks like the new 3 is actually worse than the old one since they removed the ethernet port.
You speak as if the Roku 2 were any less complicated than any other model.I've been happy with my ROKU 2 for awhile now. No plans to upgrade until I see major improvements. I like the simplicity of the R2.
Not only that, but the 2 has an older Netflix interface that's missing Profiles, among other things, like no ethernet port. With 5 profiles on my account, that comes in handy. And the price difference isn't that much, if you shop for bargains, as you said. I managed to find a couple of 3's used for about the same price as a 1.The 2 is great. In fact any of the models are great IMO, and i had no interest in getting a 3 at all until I saw a good deal on them.
People had commented on the speed of them in comparison, but not knowing, I just did not see how it would be that much different.
It really is.
I find the stick and to a lesser extent my 2 (that are used in other locations) to be annoyingly laggy in comparison (only) after using the 3.
Looks like the new 3 is actually worse than the old one since they removed the ethernet port. The new commands are no big deal since I can add them to my universal as soon as they push out a new firmware that recognizes them. I'll post back when I have them. Hopefully this will result in a price drop in the old versions of the 2 and 3, so I can pick up more of those.
Bottom line, I'm keeping my hard wired 3 and will enjoy the new commands anyway.
According to Wiki and Roku, the new 3 also has an Ethernet port.
Incorrect the "new" Roku 2 just released does have the Ethernet port and more.the new Roku 2 does not
No wireless, no problem. Roku 2 features Ethernet, a USB connection for personal media, and a microSD card slot to expand internal storage.
