Hello from south Alabama,

I am a retired welder Broilermaker. I had to stop working several years ago, so my hobby is television.

I have a c band satellite, unhappy at the moment:( . I am trying to find a c band 4d tv satellite receiver. I am at a lost for what I need to do. Also at a low level of funds, at this time of the year, to purchase one a new one. I am surrounded by trees so I don't want to go to a small dish.

I have found one that doesn't have a VC-2 module for Analogue. Would someone explain the purpose of one? Is it necessary to receive digitial or FTA?

Also what is a Stability rating SuperHEMT 5 degrees Ku-band LNB?

I have had my receiver for over 10 years with no problems except with being hit by a thunder boomers.

thanks in advance for any help

wade

You say trees, what satellites are blocked? the 4dtv program guide comes in on Galaxy-15 (G1) so it would be good if you can see that satellite, are you saying the old IRD does not have a VCII+ or VCRS board? if you do you can reuse the same one in the 4dtv, if you do not have a good board you can ask around here, I'm sure somebody here has a few extras and would let it go for a good price, there is not much analog left so I am not sure if you really would even want a VC board.

If you have c/ku already then all you need is a 4dtv, get yourself a christmas present :) NPS and Skyvision have great deals on a new 4dtv, you can also look on ebay, the 4dtv dsr 922 is what I would get if I was you.

You can then slave a dvb receiver to the 4dtv to add some free channels.

If the dish is 8.5' or larger you should have no problems.

If you are planning to subscribe to anything on 4dtv you will definitely need to see galaxy 15 (G1). That is where you go to get the descramble codes downloaded to your receiver and to load the program guide. The trees will be a problem if you have to shoot through them. Are they your trees? Maybe you could cut a few down if you are determined to get it to work. I live in the country and would cut a tree if I need to and there is a gap in my woods in that spot. Nobody out here to tell me my dish is too big or what I can or can't do, but it is not like that everywhere.

I have not been able to see Galaxy 15 for about 4 years now and still sub :) the only thing is that I do not get the IPG because it's on Galaxy-15, and sadly most of my HBO and Starz channels are there also but I get the HD so thats ok.

So no you do not need Galaxy-15 to sub, you just need it for the guide.

I guess it depends where you get your programming. Mine comes from Skyvision and to get a hit I need to go to galaxy 15, or at least that is what they say when I call for one, or to change a subscription.

Yes thats what they say but you do not need to go there, you can also go to Galaxy-10 and with SRL you can go to X4 for the hits channels.

The trees do belong to me, and I'm in the country also. I thought I had found me a receiver for 4d tv but lost to another bidder. My time is running out with c-band.

Thanks for all the posts, and you all have a great week.

OK, thanks for the info. The next time I call Skyvision I'll get on their case about it a little and see what happens. I used to be able to get hits on Galaxy 10 a few years ago but they changed it to G1 or so they say.
