I new idea came to my head last night that I would like to share and get some thoughts.

Back in the 80's a few channels appeared on C band just for BUD dish owners. they didn't last too long, but it was a good idea.

I am thinking of possibly transmitting a channel just for FTA dish owners that would help generate interest in FTA satellite and have it grow in popularity. This would be like what White Springs TV. Does anyone know the owner of White Springs TV, so that I could get some questions answered? Like how much would it cost? How would I buy rights to programming? Where do I get advertisers, What equipment is needed?

The channel I am thinking about would be called "B&W" which stands for the black and white channel. The black and white channel would air only television programs and movies seen in black and white. Even the commercials could be shown in black and white.

I would air shows like Mr Ed, Jack Benny, Ozzie and Harriet, Life of Riley, I Love Lucy, Lassie, Patty Duke Show, Make Room for Daddy, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Dennis the Menace, Andy Griffith, Bachelor Father, Sgt. Bilko, Little Rascals, Three Stooges, etc. Weekends I would air movies like Ma and Pa Kettle, Shirley Temple, Abbott and Costello, etc. plus old westerns.

Anyone here who would like to receive a channel like this?

I would welcome such programming as I think many of us would. I'm not driven by HD and really enjoy older TV shows. I've grown to dislike the on screen channel bugs and pop-up ads on TVLand. I'll take my RTNs and ALTV any day over what else is up there.

TV Land started off good but has lost it's charm with it's current programming. Remember when it had only retromercials?

I would add Perry Mason, Twilight Zone, My Favorite Martian, Munsters and Car 54 Where are you?

You are looking at $15,000 per month or so. Plus the cost of programing material.

Bob

I'd watch it, the more channels the better. Even some OTA stations might want it as a sub. There's a market out there for decent programming. I'd love to see some kind of cartoon channel FTA for the grandkids on Ku. Thanks!Blind

I miss the old Nick At Nite. I used to love watching Car 54, Mr. Ed, Patty Duke, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (Tuesday Weld was smoking!), Laugh In, My Three Sons...

I was thinking of using a VSAT system that uses a 1.2m dish. A good idea, but would require a lot more money than I am willing to invest.

I loved the old Nick At Night too. There are hit comedy shows on TV right now, but nothing that we can enjoy as a family due to the subject matter.

I would LOVE that channel! So many channels like TV Land, FX and others start out great, but then turn bad. FX once showed Family Affair and Nanny and the Professor.

I loved FX when it first came about and it was in the clear on C band. I used to watch Mission Impossible on it.

I enjoyed TNN also before the Spike days.

FX also showed Rawhide when it first started up.

Hey where's Ben Casey? It was on the America One network in the early 90s. You just can't get enough of Vince Edwards - the guy who would box you with his eyes (he'd only use one eyeball at a time to look at you).

would be great but don't see any time for sleeping.lol:D

This is a dream right , licensing the rights of syndicated programming is so expensive , back in the 80's before Fox ,UPN , Me TV , RTN , many independent stations had to aquire syndicated programming to fill their time slots , I remember looking at broadcasting industry magazines where full page ads were purchased solely for selling a TV show and I dreamed as a teen about what my channel lineup would include.

I remember watching syndicated TV show feeds on C-band as a kid , Inspector Gadget, He-Man , Heathcliff , to name a few.

You would need a lot of money to do this .

Now I think that large corporations and possibly big goverment and certain chambers of commerce could foot the bill on such a project , imagine the Pepsi Channel , Las Vegas Channel , Walt Disney Theme Parks channel , Orlando Tourism channel , Yosemite National Park Channel .

These channels could be FTA and carried by Nationwide Hotel Chains and Visitors centers , what better way to promote products , services , and Tourism.

ok just my 2 cents.

I found this website interesting. If I understand it correctly there are many older movies and some old tv episodes in Public Domain, meaning they can be copied or distributed legally. I wouldn't mind seeing a channel with stuff like this.
archive.org/details/movies

I would air shows like Mr Ed, Jack Benny, Ozzie and Harriet, Life of Riley, I Love Lucy, Lassie, Patty Duke Show, Make Room for Daddy, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Dennis the Menace, Andy Griffith, Bachelor Father, Sgt. Ok, now these are shows with substance, and I am not kidding. This will be a channel I would watch. Three stooges, old westerns, and Abbot & Costello anytime.

Great selection. I am interested.

Gotta fit in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and MacGyver in somewhere ;) FTA and MacGyver go together perfectly... Remember the episode where he and a girl escape from the Chinese consulate by sliding down a coax cable on an antenna he broke off and bent into a hook? Remind me not to let that guy into my satellite farm...
