Hello! Are there any new dvr receivers coming out soon? I'm wondering If I should hold off on upgrading to a 722 or 922 if there are newer ones coming out soon.

DISH always has new products on the drawing board, problem is some get released at CES well before they are ready for sale. After press release it is another 6-12 months before the BETA MODEL IS RELEASED FOR CONSUMERS TO DEBUG.

I don't want to sound like a pessimist, but if I were you I'd get a 722 now. Whatever Dish announces at CES will be several months before it's released to the public. After that, you want to wait several more months for them to work thru a few software updates before you seriously look into getting one.

You're probably a good 12-14 months away from upgrading to anything newer than a 922. You could upgrade to a 722, which is fairly stable (I have 2 of them), and let those on the bleeding edge take the hits for a while. Unless you like being on the bleeding edge.....then by Q3 this year, you might have something.

By waiting a week, you can at least know what's coming, and make an informed decision.

Yes.

Look for details on Hopper and Joey next week from CES. :D
is this going to another high tech gadget that isn't available to people in rural areas who can only get satellite internet? funny, dish started out as way for people in rural areas not serviced by the cable co.'s to get more tv channels and now they are screwing them over too. "case of rum, case of rum"

I would probably hold off on an upgrade until CES. At least see if they give a firm release date or just will be out "soon". Of course there is the issue of whether or not they will be available to existing subs since it would require rewiring a lot of setups to have a cable to feed all the remote "joeys". There is a big discussion of it in the pub, but I would just wait until CES to find out if there is a date or not.

That would be nothing new for Dish. They have done it in the past, moved internationals from 61.5 to 118.7, everyone here had to have a plus dish put up for the new sat or when they put high def locals on 61.5 when this is a western arc area and everyone with HD needed a wing dish. I just figure every 6 months they do something stupid like this because of some ass hat who lives behind a desk, but it's job security the way I see it.

Join the pub and find out much more about it. There is a whole discussion on the new system there. :D

We have a 722 and a 222k. I recently called DISH to see if I could upgrade to a 922 (at least) and they told me the promo period had ended. (What promo period?)

There was an announced upgrade promo for current subs for the 922. I don't remember if there was an expiration date or not. The 922s were pulled a few weeks ago ostensibly to work on the Blockbuster issue. I don't know if they've ever released them again or not. If not, that may be why it isn't available at this time. You should contact a DIRT member here on the forum for any clarification.

Anybody know if the ViP922 has gone out of production? That would be telling.

I'm waiting to see what Dish is going to offer up here, and get a time line. If they don't come out with this new DVR soon, I am heading on over to D* and that 5 tuner bad boy they are offering. I'm a 3 year Dish customer, and after watching all of the excitement and hoopla over the 922 on this forum, and seeing how that turned out, I am not holding my breath for Dish to put out something good and stable right away. They can't even get the 922 to work with BBMP now. How hard can that be? I mean really, smart T.V's and BR players can stream content, and Dish cant get the 922 working? COME ON MAN!!!!!!!

satellite positions locking in on 119 nothings else so far
