I'm a Canadian resident and I have contacted Can-Am Satellites (a Canadian "middleman" providing fee based Directv sub's). Previously (up to April 2005) I was a D* subscriber through another "agent" that was shut down by D* and the RCMP.
Can-Am Satelllites has advised that there is 100% certainty that my existing HD STB serial #'s etc. are now in D*'s database and I will not be able to obtain a new subscription through any agent (or even if I had the ability to subscribe directly (excuse the pun) with D*) using these STB's, as they are "blacklisted". As result, they advise I will have to buy new HD STB's before I can proceed in the subscription process.
Can anyone confirm if what they say is true or are they just trying to get me to purchase new hardware from them?
