Hello,

I'm an employee at Echostar (DishNetwork). New to the forums here ;) .

Just thought I'd give a heads up... new deals from Dish Network soon. "Like New" Deals. Refurbished receivers, If I remember correctly the 921 is will be available for purchase at $299, and the 942 at $399. Receivers will still be leased though.

Refurbished 510's will also be apart of the "Like New" deal, however pricing was not mentioned during the call.

Pricing may change, but look for these deals sometime before the summer is over.

Are you refering to these receivers being part of dish n' it up for exisiting subscribers.

You said they'd still be leased so this is why i think so...

How are you still leasing the receiver after paying $399? What kind of deal is that?!?!

I would be weary. Sounds like those e-mails I get that start off by saying, "I got this from my brother who is a lawyer so you know it's got to be true! Send this to 20 people in the next five minutes and Bill Gates will send you a check for $50. Remember, my brother is a lawyer and he says it's for real!" Unless Dish says it in a Retailer Chat or in a Fax-Blast, I wouldn't be so sure.

Obviously, that is fake. It only has one exclamation point. It's only true if it has at least two consecutive exclamation points, such as "Remember, my brother is a lawyer and he says it's for real!!" :D

heh, well I thought dish employees weren't allowed to talk to us unless they wanted to be fired, so I dunno...

If these are the "deals" then opf course current subs will be screwed like normal.

Well for one, Dish has NEVER sold re-furbed receivers. (Maybe a few 6000's) They use the re-furb units for warranty exchange issues only. I would venture the $399 up front on the 942 is the lease "deal" for existing customers. The 921 for $299? That I could believe because the 921 will be obsolete and less usefull than a Voom STB by the end of the year. I can see Dish trying to sucker a few more in on a purchase for a 921 then leave them twisting in the wind when mpeg 4 rolls out next year.

I doubt it is real, DIsh would rather people do not purchase those units and they would rather they wait for MPEG4, which is why we have not seen a lease on the 942's.

The person was also going through an anonymous proxy as well.

I would love to see it happen, but quite frankly I don't think it will.

And you know this because you work for E*???? Actually, they DO sell refurbs, and of ANY model they have available. Currently, they are selling refurb 501s for $149 plus installation and refurb 508s for $199 plus installation. They also sell existing subs refurbs when they have a defective unit. Say you have a 4900 that's bad. They sell you a refurb for $49 and the $15 shipping fee. Happens all the time.

Dish Network has indeed sold refurb receivers. I know because I am a retailer and they have sold them to me. Anything from the basic receivers, older legacy receivers, to the DVR receivers have been available from time to time as refurbs at a pretty good discount. They will start selling receivers for a discount to clear out the rest of the stock to get ready for the next best thing.

Yup - we know the deal. Any E* employee that posts here is almost certainly giving BAD information. Not deliberately, but just because they don't know any better.

Ok, if you work for Dish, when will the Archos Media Player be available. I really miss Tivo to Go on my laptop.

Right now I have to record on my 942, transfer the program to my tivo and then wirelessly transfer it to my laptop.

Wrong info could be one of many reasons why Dish Network had to let go of some employees posting on the forums lately.

Notice the part of the post that I have in BOLD print. If you are an employee.......what call are you referring to?? Oh, you meant the call you had with Charlie??

This could be right. When MPEG4 hits this fall, the 921/942 receivers should drop significantly in price. And I think he means that they'll still be available for lease but no pricing yet. Those prices for purchase seem too good though. Right now, refurb. 522's are around $299 so a refurb. 921 for the same price sounds real good.

Dish farks up another 921 S/W: 216

Since E* won't tell us....
