New and curious about Pansat!

So. I have recently cancelled my DishNetwork subscription, gone with a streaming media box for Netflix and a few other "channels" like that. I am very curious about Pansat as well. I have heard of the service many times, but really don't know anything about it. My dad has an older receiver, maybe a 2700a? I am not sure, I'll know that when I see the box. He is handing it down to me. Now my big question. Will a Pansat receiver and a Dishnetwork LNB and dish work together? I am not sure what the model numbers are on the dish and lnb. All they say is DishHD.

The 2700a is a standard definition MPEG2 receiver and that dish will only receive circular polarity signals from Dish Network or Bell ExpressVU. No free MPEG2 channels on Dish Network or Bell ExpressVU.
The receiver would be great for aiming at 97w satellite with a 36" dish and linear LNBF if you are interested in watching hundreds of international channels (many are in English).

And, you couldn't subscribe to either of the services with that receiver either.
Another option, albeit usually only recommended for the experienced, is mod the existing dish to accept a Standard (10750 L.O.) LNBF for use on 97°W
It wouldn't work as good as a 36 inch, but might suffice to get your feet wet.

Okay so I found out that the receiver is actaully the 2300A. So in a nutshell. To do it correctly, I would need a different dish and LNB?

Get your feet wet for $20

I think that receiver will work.
Won't have audio on channels with Dolby (AC3).

If you just want to make the existing small dish work, this thread is a better-than-nothing solution.

Use a Ku PLL LNBF from SatelliteAV, if you try this.

...and if you get hooked on FTA, you'll eventually get it anyway.
