I keep reading that it has 3 tuners, 2 Sat 1 OTA, which I've seen & used. I've seen & played with Single/Dual modes. If I'm in Dual, how do I record and watch something live? Can I record 2 things and watch a 3rd live?

Probably need a seperate thread for this question. Can older uhf dish remotes be programmed to run TV2? Like I have a JVC Dish S-Vhs remote with IR/Uhf. The Ir seems to run TV1 as is, how do I address it for UHF, of can it?

BTW My installer, when asked about HDMI issues replied with" Yea, Dish is aware there's some problems, but because it's the weight of the cable causing the plug to come loose, or cause other problems, they're not doing anything about it now."

Oh and does it have to be powered off nightly to get updates like the 4Dtv? Or is that what the 3am schedule does?

Thanks!
Bryan

If you are watching a program and decide to record it, just hit the record button on the remote and it will ask you if you would like to record to the end of the program. I would recommend that while in dual mode, you program your 622 - go to Menu, 8-Prefrences, 6-Record Plus, and then enable it with a default TV (TV-2).
Can I record 2 things and watch a 3rd live?
You should be able to record a sat program on TV2, and while on TV1 you could watch either OTA or a Sat program while recording either a Sat or OTA. In fact, you should be able to record 3 programs at once, i.e., one from each tuner; and then while recording those 3 programs, you can still watch 2 previously recorded programs. This Dish Network Forum has 2 sub-forums which I'm sure you'll find interesting. Under the sub-forum "Technical Forum" there are two (sticky) threads at the top that you should look at; "How to's for 622" (and others), and "Remote Guide". Also, here is just one thread on recording: http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=81563 - see the post by NAVYCHOP.

The first RF remotes that came out were UHF, which may be what your "JVC Dish" remote is; if so, it will not work as an RF remote on the newer systems that require UHF PRO. Maybe someone has more info on JVC models and will comment.

Dish Network uses 2 types of UHF remotes; (older) UHF, and (newer) UHF PRO. On the 622, it comes with an IR (Green 1 IR) remote which will only control TV1 via infra-red light signals; and a second IR/UHF PRO (Blue 2 UHF PRO) remote which will control TV2 via UHF PRO radio frequencies. The AUX button on this "Blue 2 UHF PRO" remote can be programmed to send IR and UHF PRO signals to a second Dish receiver (but not TV1; see the list in Chapter 10, bottom of Page 81 in the 622 manual).

Although the IR remote (Green 1 IR) can not be used to control the 622 TV1 via RF signals (UHF PRO), you can purchase a second remote, such as the "6.2 IR/UHF PRO" or "6.3 IR/UHF PRO" to control TV1 from a second room. It will require the correct tab on the bottom which says "1 UHF PRO" and is green. This remote is only available from Dish Technical Support (I believe $39 plus shipping). Here's a link with plenty of info on "Remote Controls" from a thread under the Technical sub-forum: http://www.satelliteguys.us/attachment.php?attachmentid=7758&d=1142022830
Finding the info to program the ViP 622 TV1 for IR/UHF PRO operation is a challenge, but actual setup is real easy. Just ask the question if you get another remote and need help.
BTW My installer, when asked about HDMI issues replied with" Yea, Dish is aware there's some problems, but because it's the weight of the cable causing the plug to come loose, or cause other problems, they're not doing anything about it now."
I have seen threads about the HDMI connector being less than perfect, but this may be an industry design flaw. There are some threads on this and someone else may comment further on this. Besides the flaw, there have been reports of compatibility issues with various TV's depending on the software version on the 622. Here's a link from one thread on HDMI: http://www.satelliteguys.us/attachment.php?attachmentid=13041&d=1163219504

Yes, you should turn off TV1 and TV2, but leave the 622 plugged into power, so that it will take a download. If you happen to be watching TV, I've heard you will get a message to either accept an update (which includes a software and/or program guide) or to skip it, and heard that if you take no action, it will do the update. Comments anyone?

Thanks for the tips/msgs. It's an older UHF remote, so I can only use it on TV1 as IR. So that opens up if I want a replacement remote, say off ebay, what versions do I want? If I want to control TV1 with UHF I have to get a 6.3? Or does another one work with modifications? I tried following along in the message, but seem to get confused if I have to get a 6.3 from tech support or if others work. basicly, what remote do I need to have a uhf Tv1 & a back-up Tv2? 5.0, 6.0, etc? or is there a remote that can control both?

I don't suppose there's a way, in dual mode, to change the channel on TV2 with TV1's remote? Say I'm in the living room and the kids want to watch cartoons on the 2nd output (or Tv2 remote goes AWOL, becomes a chew toy, etc), can I do it with 1 or do I need to find the 2 remote to change the channel?

Honestly I need to take some time to read more, and do more interacting, I've been working since the install, so I've only had 20mins with a remote in hand. I'm sure this will be easier after I have a day to play.

In Dual Mode, the TV1 remote can not control TV2, since TV2 is controlled via UHF PRO remote signals and not IR.

The 622 is shipped with 2 remotes:
- 5.3 IR with a Green 1 tab for TV1 in Dual Mode
- 6.3 IR/UHF PRO with a Blue 2 tab for TV2 in Dual Mode

The above link is a document that has plenty of remote info. At the top of Page 3, you will find the ViP 622 Remotes, Part # 144552, 6.3 Kit. This kit has 2 tabs which can be flipped over to provide 4 different functions.

With the supplied tabs, this remote can be used as a replacement for the 622 TV2 remote, as well as used to control the 622 TV1 via UHF PRO. New, this item can only be purchased through Dish Tech Support. However, a replacement remote for TV2 can be purchased from retailers, but it will only come with a single Blue 2 UHF PRO tab.

I have the 5.3 IR in the living room, the 6.3 IR/UHF in one bedroom; and then in the Master Bedroom I have 2 6.3 IR/UHF remotes, one with a Green IR/UHF PRO tab for TV1 and the second one with a Blue 2 IR/UHF PRO tab for TV2.

Other options:

The 6.2 IR/UHF PRO should work, but I think the buttons may have different colors.
I think the TV2 remotes on some other Dish Pro receivers will also work on TV2.
Someone said you can buy the 6.3 all day on E-Bay for under $10. I did find 1 6.2 on ebay for a little more than that, and it looked like it was complete with the tabs. If you do not get all of the tabs - it will (almost) be useless.

If you change TV1 from IR to IR/UHF PRO, it will need to be on a different address than TV2. Not recommended, but you could pull off the Blue tab and slide a plastic switch between 4 different positions that will allow it to control either TV1 or TV2.

Any of the TV2 UHF PRO remotes will work for TV2 on the ViP622. The 6.2 and 6.3 will do UHF PRO for TV1.

Without the tabs, you can still use a toothpick or small screwdriver to move the slide switch inside where the tab goes.

Cool I just ordered a 6.2 on eBay. Will see if I can program it when it arrives. Too bad one remote can't control both tuners. But I'm wierd in what works for me :)

Thanks for all the help so far.

A few more questions.

I'm waiting for support to open, while reviewing my bill I'm confused.
First the installer has me screwed up. I wanted HD gold w/o locals, when he leaves I start surffing and relize there's channels blocked i should have. Thought maybe it needed more time to download an authorization I let it go about an hour. Finally call Dish & they save i have silver. So take care of that, i thought. But now the bill says: "DHA DISHHD GOLD W/ LOCALS 149.98" then is has "DHA CREDIT - ADJUSTMENT -49.99" What is that? I thought it was $69.99 online (still need to cancel locals also!)
BTW any word on if/when OKC will be in HD?
This is obviously the first bill, just installed, so not sure if there's "hidden" start-up fees and next month will be fine. i'm just asking to be sure.

{Edit} The first bill is for 2 months. DHA Is like Digital Home Advantage.

One remote can control both tuners as long as you're in single mode. It's easy to switch back and forth by pushing the button on the front of the 622. I leave mine in single except when the wife wants to watch something different.

With 6.2/6.3 remote, you can also use the AUX mode to control TV1 in IR while using SAT to control TV2 in UHF PRO. It can be done!

Hopefully the next version of remotes - 6.4 IR/UHF PRO - will have a Green and Blue tab that has a little slide switch built into it to switch from TV1 to TV2.

OK, now another lineup question. Dropped locals from the package, I get all locals fine OTA & in HD. Now when I get to my local OTA in the guide, it used to have the lineup, now just says digital channel. Do you have to sub to the locals via sat, to get guide info for OTA?

Got my 6.2 today, programmed it up for Tv1 UHF, works great, had to readdress the original TV1 remote, but now both work (Ir 7 uhf). I was hoping to have a "universal" remote that could control both Tv1 & Tv2 via uhf, but this will work.

And in Dual Mode you need to do like Pepper said.

Remove the Blue or Green tab from the bottom of the 6.3 (or 6.2) IR/UHF PRO Remote.

Using a chop stick, small flat screw-driver, or strong tooth pick, slide the switch back and forth between the TV1 UHF PRO and TV2 positions.

There should be 4 positions that are fairly close to each other, so you may need to play around a little to figure out which is which.

Only drawback, you may have to switch the address each time, because I think if you put them both on the same address, it doesn't work well; but I would have to experiment with that before swearing to it.

Correction to Post 2

It must have been late, but the above partial quote of mine from Post 2 has an error.

The AUX button sends IR and UHF signals, and does NOT send IR and UHF PRO signals as I stated in the blue highlight above.

Sorry.

EDIT: Nope, didn't make this correction just to get my 500th post!:D

Got it. & I did read that aux does IR & UHF not Pro somewhere.
The setup I have now is ok. When the kids want to watch something else, I'll just have to hunt around for #2 to change their side. but now I can watch HD in the living room & bedroom and control #1 from both places! :)

Just would be better for me to control the whole thing w/ 1 remote. I just know #2 will go missing, or the new puppy will find it, or something. Guess at least now I have a spare uhf I can swap keys (provided I don't lose those also) to program to change #2.
Asside from single mode, there's not a way to control #2 tuner with the front panel or the #1 remote? I guess I could pip, change pip ch, then un pip, that would do it, right?
