Netflix is rolling out its first major TV app update in 2 years – here’s what’s new https://www.yahoo.com/tech/s/netflix-rolling-first-major-tv-app-2-years-133057461.html
Netflix is unquestionably a game-changer. Over the past few years, the service has grown to become a cord cutter’s dream, offering a massive library of movies and TV shows at a very affordable price. While the game has undoubtedly changed since Netflix launched, Netflix itself has often taken its sweet time in embracing change in some respects. In particular, the company’s TV app hasn’t had a major update in years… until now.Netflix announced on Wednesday that a new update to its popular app for smart TVs is currently in the process of rolling out. According to the company, it’s the first major update to its TV app since late 2013.There’s no telling how long it will take to reach your HDTV, but we have all the details on what you can expect to enjoy once you finally get the new app.

In Quest for Global Presence, Netflix Acquires Rights to 3 More Shows http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/28/b...lix-acquires-rights-to-3-more-shows.html?_r=0
Netflix is trying to persuade TV companies that it’s a friend, not a foe. Some media executives and industry analysts are growing skeptical that licensing shows to Netflix makes sense, because it can cannibalize traditional ratings and ad revenues. So Netflix is turning up the volume on its pitch that the streaming service is a valuable partner in the fast-evolving global television industry. To that end, the company plans to announce on Monday that it has landed global streaming rights to “Jane the Virgin,” the critically acclaimed CW telenovela about a virgin who ends up accidentally pregnant; “Zoo,” the CBS thriller about violent animal attacks; and the post-apocalyptic drama “Colony” from USA and Legendary Television. The deals follow Netflix’s announcement this month that it acquired the exclusive global rights for ABC’s hit drama “How to Get Away With Murder.”Anthony Padilla, left, and Ian Andrew Hecox in “Smosh: The Movie,” a Netflix exclusive aimed at teenagers and “tweens.“Why sell?” asked Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. “We are a big buyer, and these guys are in the business of making and monetizing content.”

90 Movies and TV Shows Coming to Netflix in October http://in.pcmag.com/internet/96266/news/90-movies-and-tv-shows-coming-to-netflix-in-octobe
The temperature is cooling and the sun is setting earlier. Why not, uh, Netflix and chill? Or at the very least watch lots of HGTV and Food Network shows because Netflix is adding the Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics Collection, Genevieve's Renovation, and other shows that will get you in the mood for fall. But that's not all; read on for all the titles landing on the streaming platform this month.

Netflix: What's coming and going in October https://games.yahoo.com/news/netflix-whats-coming-going-october-143002180.html
The best part of October arguably happens at the end of the month, when children run around neighborhoods asking for candy and adults dart from party to party on Halloween, but this month it’s also a busy time for Netflix releases. The streaming service will debut the first seasons of a few highly buzzed about CW series, including The Flash, iZombie and Jane the Virgin. While the first two will only be available for U.S. based subscribers, Netflix recently bought the global rights to Jane the Virgin (which stars Golden Globe winning actress Gina Rodriguez), meaning anyone can watch the show from anywhere around the world.Returning CW favorites like Arrow, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and the latter’s spinoff, The Originals will also all have new seasons sporadically released for fans to binge.Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper October without the release of another American Horror Story anthology chapter. Those looking to binge the fourth season of the show, Freak Show, before the new season, Hotel, premieres on FX Oct. 7, will be able to do so.
