SHORT VERSION: I have a 2-dish setup. How do I get the R15 to tune in locals?

LONG VERSION: I made the move from Dish this week. I ordered two R15's and planned to use an ex-roommates UltimateTV receiver as my third receiver. I even went as far as to have DirecTV send me the access card for the UltimateTV receiver so it was waiting on the installer when he got there.

The installer mounted two round dishes on my roof, saying that was necessary to pick up the locals in my market (Fayetteville/Fort Smith). He came inside when he was finished and asked where the two receivers were going. I showed him and also said that we were using the UltimateTV as the third receiver. He said that was a problem because his work order only called for two receivers and a 4x4 switch. He ended up running two lines to the living room, one to the bed room, and one to the office so I could at least get TV in all three rooms. After a VERY frustrating hour on the phone with several people, I finally convinced them to come out next week with a bigger switch at no charge (a whole 'nother story!).

I was not able to tune in local channels on the UltimateTV, and it was explained to me over the phone (not when I ordered the card or course) that it was because of my two-dish setup and the fact this was an old receiver. I accepted that and decided to add a 3rd R15, so I went to Wal-Mart and picked one up. I came home last night, hooked it up, and called to activate, all which went without a hitch. The problem is that on the 3rd R15 I could not get locals, just a black screen on those channels. I noticed the installer had used 22222 as the ZIP code on the other two receivers and I thought that might have something to do with my problem so I tried that - no luck. I went through the entire setup process on the living room receiver to see if I was missing something and now that receiver doesn't get the locals either! The only R15 I haven't touched is still working just fine. Now, how do I make the other two receivers tune in the locals?

Thanks!

Menu>settings>satellite>auto-detect should get you there it has to detect or be told that there is a 4x4 switch for it to see.

I hope what Boba said works but why wouldn't your exact zip code be used? 22222 is an Arlington, VA zip code and you are somewhere in W/NW Arkansas right?

Also, how do installers constantly get away from an incomplete or bad job with a signed workorder?

He's in NC. Locals on the 72.5
The installer wasn't wrong. He did the guy a favor. If it isn't ON THE WORKORDER it doesn't get done. Blame D* on it not the installer.

OK, I am confused;

1. So because the locals off on the "wings" he had to use the 22222?

2. I fully understand about not having/not intalling the bigger switch. The OP should have mentioned at his order time that he was needing 3 rooms, but providing one recv himself. Wonder why he didn't take the freebie 3rd receiver?

3. So he didn't walk away from an incomplete job or the user was not totally satisfied? What was the favor he did? What am I missing? Am I just misunderstanding what the OP is trying to say happened?

I'm in Arkansas. The only "favor" I could possibly give him credit for was running one cable from the switch to my office instead of running it to the bedroom. I just moved over from Dish so everything on the inside was already done and he didn't have to drill any holes. But calling that a favor is a stretch IMO.

I placed the order online for the sake of simplicty (always easier for me to type my information than spelling it out for someone). I did immediately follow up with a phone call to ask about having a card sent for my third receiver. According to the rep I spoke with yesterday, those are two "separate departments" so one doesn't know what the other is doing. I was also set on a DVR for my office, so that's why I didn't take the freebie.

I completely understood when he told me didn't have the bigger switch with him. I feel like the breakdown was with DirecTV and not him personally. He was having having trouble getting the third receiver activated and had mentioned earlier that he still had two jobs to do, so I told him he could go and I'd finish up on the phone. I was satisfied that he did everything I wanted him to do given the hardware he had with him.

If it isn't on the workorder no matter how easy it can be you risk a chance of not being paid for it. He didn't have to run a line at all to the ultimate tv. He wasn't being paid to install it. D* knew at the time that the Sub had existing equipment.
The W/O could have been writing up so tech gets paid to install all 3 irds instead of 2. The sub would have been ok outside the fact it wouldn't work with 72.5 dish.
I'll relocated a Sub's ird which wasn't on my order, I figured it would get it changed after I am finished. D* said if they changed the w/o to include an R1, it would be a charge to the sub. The sub refused the charge. I got @#@# out of money. I seen it happen to a lot to many different people.
