Need to retrieve DVR files from dead 301. Can I?

Hello all,
I have an old 301 that went the way of all things over a year ago. When i power it up and go to Recordings it shows none. It DID have about a dozen videos. The receiver wasn't working and would do all sorts of crazy things and lock up so I abandoned it and got a newer receiver.
Now I am wanting to try and retrieve those old DVR files.

Can this be done? The receiver is useless so destroying it to yank the HD is no problem and may actually be refreshing.

301's are not dvr's so you must have a 501? if it is a 501 and the firmware is above p369 (which it probably is) the programming is encrypted and can not be viewed.....if 369 or below you can google pvr explorer and view programs...
