Shoot! I need to replace my Genie, and it seems the only way to do so is have a tech come out first. You see, I'm having audio troubles with a channel which seemed really weird. DirecTV looked at it for weeks with no change but looked at the channel at their end and their end came in fine. They said they wanted to send a tech out, but I had a third party guy look at it instead due to my service address. He looked at EVERYTHING and the only thing he could come up with is have DirecTV mail me a replacement to the billing address. He also double-checked with his office and at his home, which are in two different states, to check how the channel was there. It was fine. Anyways, afterwards I called DirecTV THREE TIMES and each time they stated they won't send out the DVR without sending their own tech out first. I know in order for that to happen I'd have to "move back" temporarily, but that's such a hassle and I don't really want to do it. Not to mention I'd be without the locals I want for a while. Do I have any other options? And if I do have to "move back", how long should I wait before I ask to send a tech out? And after that, how long should I wait to "move" to where I can get the locals I want again? Thanks.

I doubt that D* will send out a Genie in the mail ... they could I suppose, but it's unlikely ... they want a tech to look at it and make that determination as to if it's something they can fix while there or not before designating it defective.

If money isn't a problem, seeing your grasping for options, you could buy one from like Solid Signal, set it up, call them to activate and turn the defective one off at that time (only allowed 1 genie per account at the moment).
You would be out the money, but you wouldn't have to have a tech come to the house.

It's $300, so I don't think I can do it. I might just have to temporarily "move" back. Do you have any answers for the last few questions I posted earlier?

Once your moved back, you can have the tech come out the next day if you want .... the installer/ repair tech really doesn't care about the locals your getting, he just wants to get the job done.

Once they have swapped the recvr out, you can call or however you do your "Move" the next day if you want ...

Use the Search, thers alot of info of those that Move.

How long have you been with D* ?
Many times you can look at your account online and find that they are offering new recvrs to you at discounted prices.

so move back, get the install done then "move" again. It aint that god damn hard

Jeez. I did it twice....when I upgraded to HD and when I got the HR34. Moved home, got the install done (to HD was 2 days, to the Genie was a day...moved home on Friday, installed Saturday, "moved" right back to where I was a few days earlier.

Not to mention I'd be without the locals I want for a while
so? technically you should have ONLY Rochester locals so deal with it for a couple days

Says the Veteran of this move ....

DAMN RIGHT!
Was a "mover" for most of the time I had Dish and Directv. But I didnt whine when I had to get an upgrade. I just moved back home and got the upgrade done

So exactly what is wrong with the HR44? Which channel do you have audio problems with, and what are the problems? If it's one channel, there's no reason to think that replacing the HR44 will solve the problem....

You could call and tell them that the 44 is just dead. Wont come on, will do nothing. I know with the regular HR series dvrs that would get one drop shipped immediately. This method may not get the same response with a genie.

However, and you run the risk of this even with a tech, you could possibly end up with a 34 instead of a 44 when it is replaced. Less likely this will happen with a tech install.

Just decided to "move" back this morning. DirecTV is coming this evening. Maybe I will "move" back to Durand, WI on Friday. Right now, I'll just have to put up with Rochester, MN locals, even though they suck.

....and as I said, if you are having problems with just one channel, it is almost certainly NOT the HR44, and replacing it with another HR44 will NOT help. You need to tell us about the problem you are having.

Well I still am more comfortable with a tech coming out to be sure anyways on what the problem is. Actually it's more like two channels. The major one is Newsmax, and to a very minor extent, TNT.

If the HR44 is set for Surround. Set for Stereo and see if it still behaves the same. If going through a Home Theater receiver, try using Optical from the HR44 to the Home Theater Receiver for audio. Then use Component from the HR44 to the tv.

Some HDTV Flat screens have an issue with the chipset that Pace is using in their boxes. This is a common issue with the IPTV boxes that Pace uses for ATT U-Verse.

The audio quality for a lot of the time on Newsmax is very poor. Nothing to do with your HR44. You should know this, you already posted in http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/thr...-of-static-what-can-i-do.339142/#post-3478536
Haven't had similar issues with TNT.

Just because DirecTV says there is no problem with a channel, does not mean that there is no problem!

Yeah, you "moved" home for nothing. TNT is fine if you turn off DD and Newsmax just is a distorted, staticy mess.

It was reported that others were not having the issue on thier recvrs, so it's either a recvr or set up issue I would think.

BTW, I don't know if he has a 34 or a 44 at this point.

Many of us are seeing the same problem with Newsmax. Some programs are OK, others are terrible. My HR34,24 and 20 all show the same problem.

Well I had my equipment checked and exchanged Genies (nothing important on my previous one anyways) and you're right, it's probably just the channel. The tech and I even agree that that is the problem. So yeah, I "moved" back for nothing. I'll just have to wait until they get that fixed. I'll just call DirecTV a couple times here and there. Anyways, I answered a survey on the phone about the technician who came over (of whom did a pretty good job), and it said in a recording at the end that sometime in the next two weeks someone's going to check over his work. Will that happen if I "move" back, or should I wait a couple weeks before doing so? Or will that person be notified? I don't want to get red-flagged. I was thinking about "moving" back either Friday or Saturday.

Here's another question... My problem on TNT is that the picture is just slightly shaky on shows like "The Dark Knight" (though very minor). Is anyone else having that issue?

P.S. I have an HR44 Jimbo.
