Hi,

I am brand new to this forum and hope someone can inform and advise me. We just recently purchased a 36ft Class A motorhome which has an enclosed, round, satellite receiver mounted up on the roof. The previous owner had used Direct TV for his TV system provider, but had no PC nor internet service need.

We are planning on traveling around the country for a while. I have heard that "mobile hot spots" are not always the best answer--for various reasons.

A few questions: 1) Since I need to be able to access the internet and get service for my LED TV when moving, camping and/or not being around hard-wire connections, is it possible to get both connections from Direct TV? 2) Is this service expensive? 3) If this is possible, is the service dependable, fairly fast and capable of connecting a wireless WiFi modem to?

Thank you!

unless you plan on streaming a LOT of video I would just get a 4g modem for the internet. I used a Verizon LTE USB stick and a Cradlepoint router for a couple years and it worked great even driving at 80 down the interstate. Of course select a data plan that fits your realistic needs, they can get expensive if you go over so limit video streams and large downloads to when you have wifi hotspot access(I used to park near Mcdonalds).

the problem with sat internet is trying to maintain the near perfect alignment required for 2 way communication. it can be done but the stabilized antennas are not cheap and if you only want it for when parked it can take a bit to get the alignment correct. This gets old if you are moving around often!

lte is a great choice

just be warned that data costs can get expensive

check with your mobile provider, or verizon(they really do have great coverage)
