Hi, I have a Sony DVD burner in my computer. I have had it since 9/03. It has a problem and I was not given the installation disc by the store that installed it. The unit reads, but won't write. Can anyone help? I e mailed Sony stotage. Thanks for any help.

What is your OS?

1. A CD/CDRW/DVD drive shouldn't need any software to be installed. I have 3 and have installed numerous others and have never used an "install disc".

2. Maybe you are looking for the software package that should have been included? Nero v6.x is the best out and chances are that is what should have been included unless it was an OEM/whitebox sale.

EDIT: Seems they send out MyDVD (crap) but #2 still applies.

You can find support here:

I am having problems burning with my Sony CDRW/DVDRW under Windows 2000/XP. What could be a possible solution?

Try switching between DMA or PIO mode on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

Go to:

* Right Click My Computer
* Choose Properties
* Choose Hardware
* Choose Device Manager
* Click the + in front of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
* Double Click the Secondary IDE Controller
* Click Advanced Settings
* Under Device 1 Next to Transfer Mode choose DMA (or vise versa)
* Click OK
* Reboot your System

For around $50 you can upgrade to the industry top award winning Optorite DD16xx. Fastest burn/read speeds on the most compatible range of media, it will double the capacity of standard CDr/CDrw and also is dual layer DVD.

HI, My OS is Windows XP-home version. I talked to Sony support-they had me d-load a test to see if the burner is good. It failed the "write" test. Sony told me the burner is NG. Any other thoughts? :cool:
