Hi

I have been spending days on the roof trying to point my Dish to Express A3, so far I have not been able to lock any channel upon scan. I purchased a SF-95 signal meter. I have:

1. WINEGARD DS-2077 31" dish.

2. Coolsat Dual Output KU Band Standard LNBF - Linear

3. 25 feet coax from LNB + coax connector to receiver (no switch)

4. Starbox Twinhan Visionplus USB FTA Satellite receiver

5. Windows XP, TwinhanDTV driver.

I live in zip code 02919(Johnston, RI) and tried my best to point my dish to Azim:124.2 degree and Elev:13.1 degree. The best signal strength I was able to point my dish to ranges from 38% - 43% (according to TwinhanDTV software). My quality bar stays at 32% while strength fluctuates from 35%-40%.

Then I was told, unfortunately, there is no footprint for KU into North America on Express A3. This satellite KU signal only covers Western Europe. The LNBF also would need to be Universal type as all KU frequencies on that satellite are below 11.7 GHz.

I checked RSCC(http://www.rscc.ru/en/news/news/2005.04.29.html) web site and found out that they're broadcasting to the eastern part of North America in both C & KU.
Here is my programming channels that I'm trying to get: http://www.lyngsat.com/ea3.html

Now, I completely confused. I need your help or advice. If you need more info, please let me know.

Thank you very much!

I don't think your going to get much from that sat, maybe with a c-band size dish you may get something. What language channels are you looking for? :)

The Ku FTA channels on that satellite are not receivable in the U.S. The Ku signals are on transponder 12. They basically cover only northern Africa and southern Europe. To view the footprints of the various transponders of this satellite see http://www.rscc.ru/en/satellite/zones/zone09.html

Their press release says that the satellite does have coverage in eastern North America, but those transponders aren't the ones used for KU FTA signals on that satellite.

yes you would need a big dish to get those if they beam the USA

there are a few channels listed on lyngsat

http://www.lyngsat.com/ia5.html

these are listed as FTA and would need a 30inch dish or bigger and a receiver

these seem to be mostly christian programming but some others are there....

TBN - Russia -----http://www.tbnrussia.org
Russia Today -- http://www.russiatoday.ru/test/
Rodnoy http://www.rodnoy.tv/
CNL -- http://www.cnl.tv/

hope this helps

Thank you for response, gabshere

You're talking about a different satellite - Intelsat Americas 5 but I'm trying to point to Express A3 and using WINEGARD DS-2077 31" dish.

Let me try this again. The RSCC channels on the lyngsat website are C-band. A 31 inch dish won't pick them up. The KU band FTA channels, Napoli Nova, Mediteraneo Sat 2 and Mediteraneo Sat 1 are not available in North America from that satellite. You need to refer to the footprint of a particular transponder to see what area it does cover. You'll also notice that Lyngsat says that the KU band transponders cover the A9 area, not global which would cover the east part of North America. The press release you refer to is over a year old and apparently things have changed since it was issued, at least for the KU band.

Hi aadlar, there are some good russian channels on ia5 and there's a sublist on lyngsat showing a breakdown of the foreign channels but I don't remember how to get to it.
Hey Iceberg or anyone who remembers, how do you get to the breakdown of the sats by language?
Thanks
