I just got a HD-ready 55" Philips projection tv (55pp9401). It's a few years old, been moved a few times, and is used (of course).

Just before getting the TV I did the "once in a lifetime DishNetwork" upgrade to a DVR unit. It doesn't do HD. They just told me I can't do another upgrade to a unit that does both HD and DVR ... they said it would be the 942.... Grrrrrr. What a stupid policy.

Anway I have a few questions to help me get started in this HD world:

1. What should I do to maximize (and check out) the performance of the TV I bought? Get a service technician?

2. What can I do to get a DishNetwork signal to my TV? (I have the 501 dish on my house with the previously mentioned DVR unit. 510 or 610 maybe?

I have to say that the picture I get now is not everything I'd expect from a great TV but then again it might either need a tuneup or maybe the standard signal coming through a S-Video connection is not the best use of that TV.

Thanks for the help!

Craig

ive got a phillips 60" projection tv and with use of dish youdefinitely need to use s-video and also fine tune the reds and blues, or the picture really sucks

It's too bad you did'nt get the 942 when you upgraded because the both the SD and HD are uncomparable to any other reciever I've seen from Directv or Dish Network. I've noticed the SD (standard digital) on all the other recievers when being ran through an HD moniter to show a lot of imperfections. The 942 really does the trick to enhance the PQ. Also, I do believe through the Dishin it Up program you can upgrade equipment once a year. And there is speculation that all of the mpeg4 boxes will be HD boxes. If this is true you might be in the running to get an HD/DVR when your boxes are swapped for Mpeg4 equipment. Just speculation though. They said that the 311 (basic rec.) and the 811 (basic HD rec.) would be replaced by the mpeg4 411 (HD reciever). This leads me to beleive that all the mpeg4 rec.'s will be HD recievers (DVR or not). There has not been much chatter about this in the forums though. Good luck!

i was told all the receivers are gonna be hd, i have dvr and they told me if i just hold off on hd part that dish will have to give me a hd dvr receiver. so im waiting.

Zenhog - you really need to get an HD receiver for that HDTV. :)

I've got a Philips 60PP9352 being driven by a 921. The difference is just fantastic.
