We have ChoiceXTRA with HD, and we were getting channel 601, NBA TV, in HD. We were catching it for a while, and now, after the free preview, we get the 721 message of Channel not purchased. Is this the same for everyone else? I know that it is supposed to be moving in the 200s for the 2009-2010 season.

NBA TV is part of the sports pack. You need to purchase a subscription to the sports pack in order to see NBA TV HD.

it will be part of the choice xtra for the 09-10 season so no need for the sports pack if you have choice xtra

DirecTV should just leave this channel be. NBA TV should be Choice Extra (whatever the name of the package).
