IMO,
the NBA is to Christmas Day what the NFL is to Thanksgiving, when you look at the similarities:
It's been around for a long time (No, really- it started in 1947- not as early as pro football on Turkey Day, but still)
It usually features multiple matchups
Traditionally shows the powerhouse of the time (Bulls in 90s, Cowboys in 90s)
Can have some memorable moments (See Bernard King's 60 point-game- does Sandra remember that from when the Knicks were not a joke?)
In fact, except for its first and last year, every season the NBA was on NBC kicked off with the Christmas Day doubleheader.
This year, you've got an awesome Lakers/Celtics game, a likely blowout in Wizards/Cavs, and three other games that are also pretty good (Hornets-Magic, Spurs-Suns, Mavericks-Blazers)
