NBA Hot Stove Thread

This may sound odd being a Piston's fan, but I would have loved to have Artest here. As for those who don't think Wallace will be a good fit in Boston, I just want to say that Boston is getting a very passionate player. (Hence the tech's). He's very good on "D', but doesn't seem to be interested in playing in the paint anymore. He phoned it in for some stretches last season, but he saw the handwriting on the wall. Our season ended with the AI acquisition. I can see him starting for Boston and giving a solid 20 minutes a night. He most certainly is a "clutch shooter", and can rain three pointers, just when you need them.

He was never a problem in Detroit, on or off the court. The "tech's" could be frustrating at times, but they seemed to fire up the team at times.

Artest is a VERY good player....almost great in the right situations.....in others words...not the main offensive option and the main defensive stopper on the perimeter.

Will he be the starting small forward in Cleveland? ah....NO! That is his reason.

Hmm. Good point. Maybe he could play some Power Forward over Andy?

You're probably on to something though. He'll certainly have a lot of playing time out in Houston. He'll be able to make a name for himself there.

Artest is a great defender and intimidator. He can be a dominating rebounder if he keeps focused.

The only think I dislike about his game is that he shoots and misses way too many outside shots, which he shouldn't even be taking in the first place.

Artest is most certainly a Dumars/Piston type of player. If it weren't for that jerk with the beer cup, maybe he would have been here.

Artest can score....just so long as he is NOT the main offensive focus of the team...and that burden was placed on him when Yao Ming went down during the playoffs.

Ariza Considering Cavs Afterall?

Trevor Ariza might be having second thoughts on signing with Houston afterall.

The source of the rumors isn’t exactly known, but ESPN radio in Los Angeles had Ariza’s agent on and asked him if there was any truth to the rumor. He answered “no comment.”

Is it a coincidence that Mike Brown and Danny Ferry are in Los Angeles today? Is it also a coincidence that Ariza is fielding calls from LeBron and Shaq in an effort to woo the talented 24-year-old swingman to Cleveland?

The Houston Rockets had a verbal agreement from Ariza (or at least that is what was reported) to play in Houston for the next 5 years. His compensation was reported to be $34 million dollars. The first day that teams are allowed to sign players to new deals is July 8th. Technically, Ariza is still a free agent. Until the ink is applied to a contract he may speak to whomever he chooses about his basketball future.

Avery Johnson will not be coaching the Pistons next season. They couldn't come together on the contract financials or length. That's the word from an anonymous contact according to Yahoo. I'm guessing he wanted more say so on personnel than Joe Dumars was willing to give. Money has never been the problem around the Pistons. mark my words, this was about personnel.

FA Rumors...

The Cavs are making progress in talks with Anderson Varajao on renewing his contract...

Also of note, the article points out that the Cavs have entered negotiations with former Raptor, Anthony Parker.

The team also continues to be in touch with free agent forward Antonio McDyess. It is starting to look as if he will not return to the Detroit Pistons. The Cavs are in the running, but Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday that McDyess may decide to sign with the San Antonio Spurs in part because it is close to his home in Houston.

I'm a little surprised that this is a 3 year deal:

Nuggets to Keep Birdman

DENVER -- Chris "Birdman" Andersen has reached a five-year deal to keep his high-flying, shot-blocking act with the Denver Nuggets, the team he revived his career with last season.

Andersen, who turned 31 on Tuesday, could make up to $26 million over the lifetime of a back-loaded contract that gives the Nuggets financial flexibility.

Mavericks Agree to Terms with Marion & Gortat in Complicated 3 Team Deal

The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, living up to the wild tenor of the past few weeks in the NBA, have hatched a complicated sign-and-trade arrangement that went through numerous constructions Wednesday before resulting in an agreement in principle that will send Shawn Marion to Dallas and also absorb the Raptors' much-anticipated signing of Hedo Turkoglu.

Cavaliers Busy Offseason Continues. Re-sign Varajao....

The Cleveland Cavaliers have come to an agreement with free agent Anderson Varejao on a six-year deal, his agent Dan Fegan told ESPN.com.

Varejao's contract is worth $42.5 million over the six years, and the final year is only partially guaranteed. Incentives could push the total amount to $50 million.

"Andy made it clear from the beginning of the process that his first choice was Cleveland," Fegan said. "He feels strongly that there's unfinished business left in Cleveland -- to win a championship."

Cavs Agree to Terms with Guard Anthony Parker, also in Talks with Channing Frye

The Cavs have also agreed to terms with Toronto free agent Anthony Parker. The final figures of the deal are not set, but he will receive a portion of the $5.8 mid-level exception for either two or three years.

The Cavs hope to sign Channing Frye with the remainder of their mid-level exception.

Looks like ALL those free agents that were gonna be available for the 2010 free-for-all....will more than likely be staying with their teams. Going into last NBA season, most GMs thought the salary cap would be in the upper 50s/lower 60s(in the millions)....NOW it seems it MIGHT be lower 50s but more than likely $50 million. That is a HUGE difference!! ALOT of teams legitimately thought they could sign TWO big name....now alot of team will be lucky to sign one. Expect to see ALOT of sign-and-trade in my opinion, ALSO expect most if not ALL of the big names for next years free agents...to sign extention real soon.
