NBA 2008-09 Season

Oh. Well, that takes the wind out of that trade. Big woop.

I'd make that trade in a minute. I'm still hoping Dumars (Detroit) is still in the mix. I don't see him going to Miami either. Sending Marion back to Phoenix makes no sense to me, and there is no way in hell I would give up Beasley at this stage. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Meanwhile in Detroit, the break couldn't come at a better time. These guys are in a complete meltdown. I think Rasheed is really worn down and I know he is bothered with tendonitis, so a rest is in order. It would help if Johnson and Maxiell were playing better, but there not, and it's causing Curry to overplay McDyess and Wallace.

Well...I DO agree that sending Beasley would be crazy....but EVERYONE is trying to set up for the 2010 free agent frenzy....LOL!

There must be about 10 Lebrons, 10 D.Wades and 10 Boshes in that lot of free agents.....LOL!! EVERYONE seems to think they can "land one...."

:
The Celtics are on a long pre/post All-Star game road trip.

Last night: they defeated the Hornets in New Orleans.

Tonight: they play the Mavs in Dallas (9:30pm, TNT).

After the ASB, the C's play in Utah, Phoenix, Denver and LA (Clippers).

They don't return to the Garden until Feb. 27.

No doubt, this is the Celts toughest stretch of the season.

I'm surprised that Cleveland hasn't surfaced in the mix. I would think one of the best ways of keeping LeBron would be to bring Amare to Cleveland. If that happened, it would certainly tip things in their favor come the playoffs.

1. Amare is a free agent in 2010, the same year LeBron is a FA.

2. The Suns are supposedly asking for a ton in return. (1st round draft picks + legitamite starters + expiring contracts). The only expiring contract we have is Wally Szerbiak.

3. Is mortgaging our future worth breaking up a good thing we have going now? Despite his talent, it would take time for Amare to gell and develop chemisty with his new team. Would Amare mesh with this team quick enough to not suffer any setbacks this year? The way the Cavs look at it is, we have this year and next year to win a Championship. After that, there are no guarantees.

I think it's clear by now, the Cavs are going to dance with the girl they brought.

Boston had no problem getting Ray Allen and KG into the mix. I think LeBron is one of those players that makes everyone around him better. Stoudemire wouldn't have any problem fitting in, not to mention what this would do for LeBron's game. At any rate, the future is now. Dumar's kept our core together a season or two, too long in hopes of securing another championship. It's a small window, and you have to get through while you can.

I understand the price for Amare to be a young starter, a #1, and a throw away contract. Now that I think of it, the Pistons have all the above. What's Dumar's waiting on?

Well, the All-Star Break is here.

I thought it might be interesting to see what the playoff matchups look like now vs. what they will ultimately look like in April:

Eastern Conference

(1) Boston (44-11) vs. (8) Milwaukee (26-29)
(4) Atlanta (31--21) vs. (5) Miami (28-24)

(2) Cleveland (40-11) vs. (7) Detroit (27-24)
(3) Orlando (38-13) vs. (6) Philadelphia (27-24)

Western Conference

(1) LA Lakers (42-10) vs. (8) Utah (30-23)
(4) Portland (32-20) vs. (5) Houston (32-21)

(2) San Antonio (35-16) vs. (7) Dallas (31-21)
(3) Denver (36-17) vs. (6) New Orleans (30-20)

IF the matchups stay like this (doubtful), I'd be intrigued by a couple of series:

Miami-Atlanta: a TON of athletism in this series!

New Orleans-Denver: if you like offense, this is for you!

IMO, two of the above teams won't make the playoffs: Milwaukee and Dallas.
Replace them with either NJ/NY in the East and Phoenix in the West.

I take it the only reason Boston is the #1 seed is because they have played 4 more games than the Cavs so far?

With that said, the Cavs/Celts season series is split at 1 game a piece so far. We play each other 2 more times this year. If each team wins 2 games a piece, what is the second tiebreaker to determine the #1 seed if we both end up with identical overall records?

I think it's conference record....

Good- Bye Pistons. We couldn't handle them when we were good a couple of seasons ago. I'd rather miss the playoffs than be one and out. at least we get a lottery pick.

Source: Heat close to landing Raptors' O'Neal - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

If true, at least Marion had a great farewell game last night.

LOOKS like it is now confirmed....

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

The deal is pending league approval, according to sources, and if approved, would be announced later Friday afternoon.

Is this a good trade for your Heat?
