Received this HotPass info from DirecTV:

This year NASCAR HotPass will feature in addition to the video channels in SD and HD, a separate channel that allows customers to watch the race and listen to 13 teams' radio communications at one channel location.
Normally customers will be able to vote each week at directv.com/hotpass

However, the first race the survey is going out via zoomerang.

Here is the link, please invite your members to vote

http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB227CNKEWVAD

Only 13 can be selected by each voter or their ballot will be spoiled.

FYI: That's 13 drivers for an AUDIO ONLY channel. The video in-car channels have been reduced to only 4 channels, but they will be in HD this year.

I'm not a Nascar fan, so it doesn't matter much to me, but didn't they have 5 driver video channels last year?

If they only do 4 drivers, isn't that a step backwards!@?

I thought they were trying to grow a package out of the fan base in Nascar?

I did not have D* last year, but Yes, it was 5 drivers.

When InDemand had it they had 7 drivers at first but later dropped to 6. When D* took over they had 5.

It's now at 4 but they will be in HD for the 1st time. They are also adding the audio channel so you can pick between 13 other drivers for audio.

If you have the Nascar Trackpass subscription, you can get all the driver's audio with them. So, I don't know how much of a value the D* audio channel really is. It does seem like there should be more video channels as they usually equip 9-10 cars with the cameras.

I think the idea is that they have a central location for the video and you can choose from the 13 drivers to hear the audio from the pits from your favorite driver.... hopefully thats how it will work !

It would be like having a scanner while watching the race.

I had Hotpass last year and I'll have it this year. Almost thought I wouldn't renew, but now I'm looking forward to it. The lack of HD was the biggest problem last year. How could you watch the action in SD when you knew you could watch the race in HD? At the beginning of the season, I watched my drivers for a while, but always switched back to the network feed for the majority of the race. By the end of the season when Dale Jr. was out of it, there was almost no point except during commercials. And if I can watch one car in HD and scan through 13 different audio channels at the same time, that sounds great to me.

Received this today:

Just a quick note, the driver channels in HD for NASCAR HotPass are mostly in MPEG4.
Channels 795, 796, 797, 798. However, channel 799 is in MPEG2. This is the national network feed with the 13 driver audio channels

So if you have older equipment you can watch the national HD broadcast on 799 and choose from the 13 audio feeds.

MPEG4 Equipment is required for the 4 driver cam channels.

Also in order to see the HD you must have the HD Access plan, as even if you subscribe to NASCAR Hotpass you will not get the HD feeds unless you have the HD Access plan.
