All produce a superior product, but their customer service sucks. How about you guys? What companies would you say have the worst customer service?

TDS Telecom. I kicked them to the curb in 2015, and went with Ooma, and had to throw away our old phone number we had for years, because they refused to port it. They provide POTS phone service, and DSL to both Sanford MI, and Beaver Island, MI. So, I had a double-whammy at one time.

They absolutely SUCK donkey balls.

That's a violation of federal law, they can't refuse to port a number!

Since the beginning of Local Number Portability (LNP) in late 2003, it was not allowed for any phone company to withhold export of a phone number. The number might be part of their allocated block, but the number itself didn't belong to them. If they ran out of allocated numbers to assign, that wasn't the customer's problem.

A phone company could refuse to import a number (with special waivers usually based on technology issues -- and at their significant peril in attracting new customers) but they couldn't refuse to surrender a number. Numbers are routed at the Publicly Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) level so the local yokels don't have any say in where a number is directed.

That's what I was thinking. primestar31 probably could have filed a complaint with (the FCC?) about his local telco refusing to release his number.

No, I was saying TDS Telecom refused to release the number. I didn't file any complaint, because I was told they had the right to refuse. So I never questioned it.

That's still not as bad as the former local telco here in my town, CassTel, which had actual ties to the New York Mafia and John Gotti!

Mob ties don't necessarily impact customer service (unless you are a certain kind of pest -- in which case, they may come over and break your kneecaps).
