Name Brand Digital Cable Boxes

Ok my cable company Northland never purchase new boxes but buy Charters retirees.What is the best brand of Digital Cable Box out there far as picture quality and sound.I would like to buy my own and let them program it so nothing illegal goes on and I can run it own their outdated system.Thanks for any help! How good are the Pace HD boxes? For a regular HD box, the SA or a Pace box is available [in my area].

i have heard mixed reviews for the pace. i believe the sa8300hd is probably the most stable hd dvr out there. it beats both directv and dish hands down. it works.
