Hello everyones,

It's been almost little over a year ago, since the stressful time since my Mom passed away....

Had to move to apartment, and had make a two options Directv or stick with FTA motorized Dish, I chose Directv.

Finally I found a new place for my Directv and FTA motorized dish at my new townhouse!!!:)

HOA here don't mind satellite dishs, since this neigbhor has tons of satellite dishs mostly Directv.

Now I have a question for you guys I am looking for a new H to H motor that has more ranges, since my old motor SM3D12 will go only from 148*W to 61.5*W.

I am hungry to get 58*W and beyond for these exotic birds!!

I am located at 106.5 W and 35.0 N here in Albuquerque.

I have a 90 CM Fortec satellite dish with perfect clear view of southern sky!!:D:hungry:

So what the best H to H motor that is reliable and greater TV DX ranges?

Now it's time to get back to TV DXing reports here on this website.

If you can land on 61.5, try placing the receiver in DiSEqC 1.2 mode and see if you can drive the motor to 58. Often the limit occurs in the receiver calculation rather than the physical limits of the motor.

Thanks guys,

I will try to push the motor to 58*W, since I got to 61.5*W, I may have to reboot the receiver to clear the calculation and see if I can get PAS-9 bird.:hungry:

Will report later in the day, since I have go to the work today.

Thanks for informations!!:)

Sorry to hear about your Mom.

I thought that bird was too far east for Albuquerque. Aren't the Sandia's blocking it? Now you got me thinking. I haven't had much luck east of 72 W.

Keep us updated. BTW I'm @ zip 87109. Maybe we can meet at a "Satellite coffee shop" someday and chat. Are you still operating on the ham bands?

Ciao,
Tom

I just got back from work and I will try to push little more to the east later tonight, have to go to a party.

Tom,

I haven't been on the air yet, But I plan to be on 6 meter band all mode Kenwood -TS 60s when I have the time.

Tom,

What is your Call letter btw?

73's for now......

Well, no luck on moving to 58*W.:( I may have to order a new motor that has a better ranges.

Which is the best H to H motor brand to go for?

Thanks!!

Now back to TV DXing......:hungry:

alternate plan

Welcome back to the forum. - :up

For Albuquerque, I get about 25° elevation for the bird at the 58°w orbit.
Would a new motor actually take you beyond that to the next satellite of interest?

If you have the space, what about another fixed dish?
To shoot 58°w, the face of the dish would be pretty close to vertical.
Some dishes have a problem going much beyond that.
So, ya might consider mounting the dish inverted. (or not, but it's something to think about)

I believe the next two birds are around 14° and 11° elevation, and you'd better have a pretty clear shot to the east! -
Hispasat at 30°w would be a 2° grazing shot right at the horizon. -
I'd bet money you would never see it.
But if you could, a motor would never take you there. - :)

I guess my point is this.
Since the good satellites are so sparse beyond 60°w,
. . . and a new motor might only get you one anyway,
. . . . would you consider a fixed dish?

I like my Stab HH-90, but it isn't a popular motor because of the way the tube for the dish mounts. A lot of dishes won't mount on it without modifying the dish mount. It has metal drive gears and 2 encoders so the motor cannot 'forget' where it is and will never need to be resyncronized. The Stab HH-100 and HH-120 will not have the problem with mounting some dishes but also have metal gears and 2 encoders.

A lot of people use the SG-2100 motors and it's probably the most popular. Almost all dishes will mount on this motor. It has plastic drive gears and 1 encoder so it does need to be resyncronized sometimes. Even though its parts are not as good quality (IMO) as the Stab's it seems to hold up well.

The Stab HH-90 have +-65 degrees movement, the HH-100 and HH-120 have +-62 and the SG-2100 has+-75 degrees. The SM3D12 that you has only +-49.5 degrees movement so any of these other motors will give you alot more movement to get some of the eastern birds.

I use the SG2100 and in Minneapolis (93.3W) I can get all the way to 30W on my SG2100. I have to use Diseqc 1.2 instead of USALS to get to it but works great

can get from 30W-148W on that motor

Thanks Iceberg,

Will have to order the new motor soon as the weather here in NM gets better, today it was in mid 30's in the shade.:)

I tend to be a tropical person since I hate cold weather.:p

Anyway back to TV DXing....:)
