MySQL Issues

So I have this instance of MySQL that I forgot the password to. I uninstall it and delete the file folder. When I try to install a new instance it gets to the apply security settings thing and then gives me the error that it can't connect to the database. It also says with that error that if you have just uninstalled an instance of MySQL that the previous file folder does not automatically remove itself and that you need to remove it. Then all of the methods I've found to reset the password don't work. I'm basically stuck... Any MySQL gurus out there?

(get a real database? PostgreSQL is my personal favorite).

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit. Downloading it from here: MySQL :: Select a Mirror to Start Downloading - mysql-5.5.19-win32.msi. I would convert to PostgreSQL [Just not sure if this PHP web app that I'm using supports it. But I guess giving it a try won't hurt.

Ok. I found MySQL in Regedit. What do I need to do now?

Delete all references to Mysql.

Grrr. Still not working. There is a bunch of things that mention SQL in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT could the problem be there?
