Ok I'm getting bored so what should be my next purchase? Should I go with a Cband setup? I'm looking at going with a new 6foot dish etc for Cband, or sticking with my Ku setup and getting a Pansat 9200HD with the optional board for Hd stuff. I'm leaning towards getting the Pansat first. Only thing about HD is I'm confused the various formats...8Qpsk? 420, 422 etc...I guess the Pansat won't receive all of them. It will be hard enough convincing the wife that I need another receiver let alone another even bigger dish! Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Blind:)

C-Band would get you lots of bang for your buck.

I'm sure others will point out you can get DVB- S2 and HD from another make box, for less money.

I want a second HD box, but am planning to wait until something great emerges. No sense in buying what may soon be an antique as the standards change.

Yeah thats my worry with the HD stuff I maybe stuck with something obselete down the road. I got a line on a cband dish this morning for cheap....waiting on the guy to get back to me. Blind

Get the c band dish first, there is lots of stuff there to keep you busy. There is more and more dvb-s2 showing up so I think you might be frustrated with a 6 foot dish, try for a bigger one if possible.
If you are worried about buying a receiver that might be outdated, you could try a dvb card and play around with that until that perfect receiver hits the market......I've been waiting for that for years.:)

I agree about the C-band first. If you had to buy a HD receiver right now, I'd look for a used CS8000 or CS8100 HD box. They are Much more reasonably priced than the Pansat 9200, outperform the 9200, in my opinion, except for no blindscan, and that would leave some more room in your budget in case a really nice HD box comes to market. I doubt that any HD box coming to market will include 4:2:2 chroma support, so you may end up needing a DVB-S2 PCI solution for THAT compatibility.

me too, and . . .

First choice:
- Yes, consider a freebie 8' BUD.
( the cost of a free dish is not zero... trust me! )

Second choice:
- A 10' or 12' BUD would be nice, too.
Do you see where we're going?

Backup:
- If you are really cramped for space, then the 6' dishes would be a ... choice.

Mandatory:
- Just make sure you can motorize it.
- If you do, then the Gbox 3000 from Sadoun is a must.

No Choice:
People tip-toe around this, but I think if you will search the forum here, you'll find some owners of the Pansat expressing some serious reservations about the box.
I try to read most of what's been posted for the last couple of years, and that is the impression I've gotten.
Not that I am overwhelmed by any of the HD STBs, but that is one I'd stay away from for sure.

Thanks for all the input....well I found a large dish that I'm supposed to call about tonight....either way I think the Hd is on hold for a while. The lady was wanting to sell this dish to someone who would want to make money at the scrapyard! So far all I know is she says it is huge! and metal. I'll know tonight...she said to make an offer? 1...how much to offer saying its maybe a 10 footer...2...if its all metal and not the perforated ones I remember in the 1980's I'm probably screwed due to the weight issue trying to remove it. I'd hate to miss out on it if I could get it for 50-75 bucks. The scrapyard wouldn't give her anything for it I'm sure....least not the ones I deal with. Thanks! Blind

Sadoun says to charge for taking them down! If they are down on the ground, undamaged and the pole is out of the ground and with it, I MIGHT pay for one, but otherwise NO! I paid for 3 with poles, on the ground, disassembled WITH cables and receivers, and with two people helping me get them on the trailer=== $50.00.
I did drive over 500 miles to get those and 3 more (which were totally free).

Speaking as an owner of a Pansat 9200HD, I think you may be disappointed by it.

I wish I had purchased the Coolsat 8100. It does DVB S2 out of the box without the optional card the Pansat requires.

What specifically is it that people don't like about the 9200HD?

I think it is price versus performance. It's only advantage over the CS8000/8100 boxes, is it's blindscan on DVB-S. You can get a Coolsat 8000/8100 for 1/2 the price, and seamless DVB-S2 programming and reception. If the $350 Pansat 9200 included DVB-S2 at the price, I'd still think the CS8000 was a better deal. I can't think of a single thing wrong with my CS8000, other than "no blindscan", and "no 4:2:2 chroma support" .
:)

The only thing I would add is, if the pole or mast is unique, I doubt you want to dig it up. My advice is to do what I did on the donated Birrdview solid I am now using I have a circular saw with one of those super cheap, black metal cutting blades on it.

I cut around the bottom of the pole as close as I could get to the ground level. Took 5 minutes to cut it. Leave any concrete footing in the ground. If the lady asks you to dig it up, charge her for the service instead of paying for the dish.

As far as the HD receivers, I have 2 - Sonicview and Viewsat 9000. The Sonicview is definitely better, but doesn't get S-2. The Viewsat is not a good choice for c-band .

Also, get whatever dish movers and receivers, etc. that the lady might part with.

I have both the Pansat 9200 and the Coolsat 8000. They are both good units- just different. The goofy channel display on the 8000 takes some getting used to. (like ignore it and just look at the screen instead) S2 is a plus for the 8000 but I still prefer the 9200.:) Oh...and to answer the original question...BOTH! C-band and an HD box will give you lots of great stuff to watch.

Wow everyone thanks for all the great input! Well I'm gonna try Cband first. I'm not sure about the dish though...I think she is one of those that really thinks she has something...money wise...I find out tonite and I'll report my findings. Blind:)
The wife will crap if she sees me haulin a 10 footer thru the backyard hmmm.

I still remember the look on my wike's face when I came home with a BUD strapped to the top of my car. :)
Then when I assembled it, talk about "bug eyes"!

Good luck Blind..

I only have a small yard and a pole..on a rental property..My wife would go nuts if I tried to do what some of you all do..with 5-6 dishes or more in the yard.
