I would consider the Hopper a pretty well working receiver already. Most issues are minor and can be put up with until Dish fixes it. The way the Hopper works as is right now already surpasses any Dish receiver right now in my opinion. I loved having the OTA but I do not need it right now, I still have antenna connected to my TVs for severe weather. The Hopper integration will be great but as long as my Joeys can see both Hoppers it still fits my needs. PTAT work just fine for me also. My only issue so far was not getting my EHD working properly.

Overall, the benefits far outweigh any issues I have had. Now it won't benefit everyone the same way it did me but don't bad mouth it just because it doesn't fit your needs yet. The people that got it and are upset about no OTA and Hopper integration, you can laugh at them all you want since they should've known before hand. I knew what I was getting into and I have no complaints as of now. Things can always change though. I'll stick my foot in my mouth for you then Mike.

I do understand that you went through a lot with all of that and it looks like you've learned a few things. The one thing you have not learned yet is to quite buying your equipment. I don't feel that bad for people who buy their equipment when in most cases it just makes more sense to own. I'm a retailer that can just take one out of my inventory for free and call it purchased if I want, but I still lease my equipment like any other customer.

I have bought all my receivers from Dishdepot out of Florida since 2003. I trade in my older receivers to Mark and he gives me credit towards the newest must have receiver and I never pay tax since I don't live in Florida. I can't talk any higher about Mark ,he is a great guy to work with. I can also sub to any programming I want from DISH because of this and do so on one of my accounts for my Aunt. She loves the Welcome pack at $14.99 a month. Also haven't had a commitment to DISH in years. Which means I get a lot of discounts and freebies from DISH every year , when I call in and say what can you do for me this year in the way of credits? This last year I got $10.00 off for a year and free Hbo/Cinemax for three months on two of my accounts. That right there is worth $ 240.00 for the $10.00 credits and I didn't even do the math on Hbo/Cinemax for two accounts.

If I do upgrade to the hopper /Joey system ,and that is a BIG if , since it doesn't do all I want... YET, I might just think about leasing this time. But I would have to "move" back home and get stuck with a 24 month commitment and who knows what they would charge me to upgrade , after reading some of the horror stories on these upgrade threads.

Okay Scherrman , put both feet in there if you think it will help. I have to say that I admire your faith in DISH, although I don't think it is warranted,anymore . But, I do hope the hopper lives up to all our expectations , after all DISH's future depends on it.

As long as I get my programming in HD and have my DVR working. The 922 worked great for me, most of the extra feature missing didn't bother me too much. If none of it works then I just get different equipment. I try not to worry too much about it. It's just TV.

I don't think you understand about how bad my experience with the 922 really was. I really wanted the 922 for TV 2 in HD. At first I thought we would get it by software and then the mythical sling extender was supposed to give us hd on tv 2. Then I bought a sling adapter to work with the yet to be released sling extender, on my now new 722k and we all know how that went. I really liked the 922 and I made a lot of changes to be compatible with it. I bought the kind of router that DISH recommended and I upgraded to the best cable broadband at a higher cost. I bent over backwards to use the 922 and it was a total disappointment to me .


The fact that I can still stay with DISH at all, is a testament to my stubbornness. I really felt like I got burnt with the 922 receiver and the total relief I felt when I traded it back in for a new 722k I can't describe. It was like a weight had been lifted . I went through 10 months of my wife telling me : Why did you buy this receiver again? She stayed pissed at me every time she turned on the tv because of something it did wrong: Random freezes, reboots, lost recordings, and it was just tv. But when tv is your main source of entertainment, after working with inmates all day in a filthy ,dangerous prison, it is more than just tv. She and I both worked there together , when we had the 922 and there were times I thought she was going to kill me over the damn 922 . But I have to tell you the truth here: She warned me in no uncertain terms that if I upgraded to another buggy receiver like the 922 again , she would shank me. When a correctional officer says that , you know she means it.

I was an early adopter of the 811. I had 3 of them. They had bugs up the wazoo, but for the most part were very functional for the four years that I had them. The Hopper and Joey are a delight compared to those 811s, and I for one am happy with them.

Yes, I had the 811 for a month before trading it back in for a 921pvr. It was quite buggy, and I rebooted that crap box quite often. Mark at dishdepot said it was a real p.o.s. receiver. He had no problem letting me trade it back in for what I paid for it ,since I was buying the more expensive 921 receiver.

Sounds like you've earned a little smugness, but man you're missing out on all the fun. From a mature 622/722k system to an early adopted 2 Hopper/3 Joey system is quite a step up in functionality. I had the 922, so I well acquainted with the channel logos , menus, tiles, box art on the video tiles etc. There isn't that much difference between it and the new hopper. Also I have a fully functional 722k with ota tuners that can record all 4 networks now and it saves it to my hard drive and I don't have to worry it will be deleted after 8 days. When the hopper has full ota functionality and 2 hopper integration and the bugs ,software quirks are all worked out, I then will think about upgrading. Till then, I'll let all of you first adopters have all the fun. I think I have more than deserved my rest from the upgrade merry-go-round that I've been on with DISH for the last 15 years.

Look I was a early adopter of the original webtv/dishplayer back in August of 99. I loved the receiver and it was my first experience with the internet. I loved the pvr features and back then we had east /west coast networks for recording our shows. So we still could record all 4 networks , time delayed. But Microsoft and DISH had a falling out and the dishplayer went to HELL quickly. But after trading it back in for a replacement to DISH for 4 times in a row and at $15.00 a pop, I gave it up and went back to a 301 receiver.

The 7100/7200 was one of the best DISH receivers ever. Was certainly ahead of it's time. I never had a single problem with mine, even after the M$ falling out. I realize there's others who weren't so lucky.

Yes I was definitely an unlucky one . I had several of the 7100 and the 7200 webtv dishplayers. Really liked them and I felt like they were the future for DISH ,but it wasn't meant to be.
