This list is for the all-time consideration.

LF - Ty Cobb - maybe also the all-time a$$hole of baseball.

CF - Willie Mays- the complete package

RF - Babe Ruth - The man that made baseball the sport it is. Helluva pitcher in his early days. Would have set the records higher if he was an everyday player earlier in his career.

3B - I'm staying with A-Rod

SS - Honus Wagner

2B - Joe Morgan

1B - Lou Gehrig

C - Johny Bench

RHP - Cy Young - There's a reason the award is named after him - 511 wins, 749 complete games. Those 2 records will never, ever be broken.

LHP- Sandy Koufax - If you doubt me, ask the players who had to face him. Short career due to arm problems, but absolutely the most dominate pitcher of all time.

Reliever- I'm sticking with Goose Gossage because he's the one I'd would want in the 9th inning and the world series on the line.

I could probabily list another team with a whole new set of names that would not be much of a step down if any. I didn't see a lot of these players on my list, there here via reputation, or statitistical achievemnet. That's why I did the "my lifetime" list first. I just felt more comfortable rating players I actually seen play.

Who's on your list? Have fun!

nice list, just one correction, okay two

number one because he is my all time favorite player and has the sweetest stroke in baseball Ken Griffey Jr

and I am not so sure about joe morgan, he was great I would tend to lean towards hornsby or biggio for second. but great list.

LF - Hank Aaron - Most HR's, Most RBI's and 3,000 hits.

CF - Ken Griffey Jr - nuff said

RF - Babe Ruth - Played Pitcher and held records that lasted for a long time and me still have a few

3B - Mike Schmitt - A-Rod has played 2 positions and is kinda handicaped

SS - Honus Wagner/A-Rod Can't make up my mind

2B - Joe Morgan

1B - Pete Rose - sorry have to choose the greatest hitter of all time

C - Johny Bench

RHP - Cy Young - Like Paul said has 2 records that will never be broken

LHP- Warren Spahn

Reliever- Mariano Rivera - even though I hate the yankees with a passion

Thanks for pointing out my oversight everyone. Kinda hard to leave ot Aaron or Rose, but leaving out Cobb would have been unthinkable, as would leaving out Gehrig. As i said in my original post, I could name an additional list that would probabily be just as good. Plenty of names that deserve recognition like Hornsby, Mantle, Musial(24 all star games!), not to mention some great pitchers like Clemens, Spahn, Walter Johnson,.....etc... There are so many names because of baseballs long history, but the bottom line is you can only pick one for each position. By the way Cobb got the nod over Rose because of his base running and alltime average. He simply was the best hitter in the record books. Feel free to debate!

LF - Barry Bonds

CF - Willie Mays

RF - Roberto Clemente

3B - Mike Schmitt

SS - Honus Wagner

2B - Bill Mazeroski

1B - Willie Stargell

C - Gary Carter/Johny Bench -It's a hard call

DH - David Ortiz -If were talking best players ever, can't forget the DH, and "Big Papi" is the best.

RHP - Cy Young/ Nolan Ryan -another hard call

LHP- Randy Johnson/ Warren Spahn -Ditto

Reliever- Dennis Eckersley

I don't know how ANYONE can make an "ALL-TIME" list of anything with players THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN PLAY!! I mean, you guys are going on books, maybe some scetchy film...but come on guys...let's be serious here. That is why I never get into discussions about "Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time" type because I NEVER saw Oscar Robertson play...I didn't watch Wilt Chamberlin play in his prime....I never saw Mickey Mantle player either. SO, unless you ACTUALLY saw Ty Cobb play in his prime, saw the type of competition he had to play against.....how can you put him on your list and say he was better than anyone else...??

I agree with Salsa Im dont have nerve to compare generations so Im going with the best ball players that I have ever seen.

Closer- Gossage...he used to send me to bed in agony
C Johnny Bench- Hosting the Baseball bunch was just the icing on the cake
1B Pete Rose
2B Ryne Sandberg
3B Mike Schmidt
SS Alex Rodriguez...either him or Buddy Biancalana..its a toss up. :)
LF Manny Ramirez
CF Ricky Henderson
RF Ichiro...its my outfield and Im moving him from center to right.

Best clutch player that Ive ever seen...Dave Ortiz.

There is a list for the players you seen in your lifetime. I agree that it's hard to make the comparisons between different eras, that's why I posted the "my lifetime" list first. Others wanted to debate an all time list, so I created this thread also.

Salsa, if you don't want to play, take your ball and go home. Your argument can probabily be stretched to include most of the crap you guys argue about in the PIT also. I don't like playing there, therfore I don't.

I understand your point...but my point is you are making judge on something you have never seen. I have NEVER seen the Grand Cayon, I can't comment how amazing it is....therefore I cannot comment on whether Josh Gibson or Johnny Bench is MY ALL TIME best catcher 'cause I never saw Josh play.

Bud won't follow Junior to Hendrick
