The Federal Communications Commission held its long-anticipated auction for Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service (MVDDS) licenses Wednesday, and the preliminary results show the bidding for the licenses have grossed $23 million.
DTV Norwich LLC appeared to be one of the big bidders, putting down millions of dollars for MVDDS licenses covering key markets such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. South.com, minority-owned by EchoStar, bid for MVDDS licenses covering Seattle, Cleveland, Phoenix and Orlando.
More of the bidding results will appear Friday.
Satellite interests have been watching MVDDS closely. The wireless technology will share the same spectrum used by satellite TV services, which have industry interests worried about interference with their services.
