Must-Carry with SuperDish 121? How?

I just had a Super Dish 121 installed for Chinese Great Wall international channels (not the 105) and must-carry locals, but four of my locals show a card that says I will get a second dish "without any charge" if I call them up. First I thought this wasn't legal. Second how is the signal going to be hooked up?? My question is, if I have three cables going to my Super Dish 121 through a switch with all four connections used up, how are they going to get the fourth dish signal down to my receiver? I have two dual-tuners activated (four full drops) form a DP34 switchbox.

What kind of switch combination is going to work with a Super Dish 121 to get the fourth satellite? Are more wiring and switches going in? Seems to me the Super Dish is consuming all the bandwith on each of the four drops, so how does the fourth dish signal get through?'

According to Lyngsat my missing locals are on 60.1.

Please note that I'm NOT on a Super Dish 105, I am on the Super Dish 121.

The last time I ran into this situation the customer had to buy the 105 superdish. Well you will really be paying for the 121 dish cause it is considered a special dish for the Great Wall. It is legal by the way they are working on that last I heard.

You will need a DPP44 switch unless you want to give up 110 or 119.

Whats the 60.1 number?

1) As of now, as long as they offer you a free dish, installation and hardware necessary to receive the signal, it is legal. As of the end of June 2006, Dish has to make all local channels in your area availavle on one dish. Note it doesn't have to be the same dish as where other programming is coming from, nor does it have to be on one satellite slot. Just on one dish. For example, all the Amarillo locals are at 148°. That is fine. Some local markets have locals spread through 119°/110° and 129°. As long as Dish requires a Dish 1000 to subscribe to locals in these areas, that is also legal.

2)Probably a DP44 switch? Not sure about the particulars. There are quite a few solutions depending on the exact set-up. Remember Dish cannot charge for anything required to upgrade for locals.

And I think you mean 61.5° and not 60.1.

Sorry I got the 61.5-degrees wrong.

Mikethedishguy: I have three lines to the roof only, surely one line won't cut it?

Is anyone possibly actually installed a Super Dish 121 with a 61.5 fourth dish? I'm fascinated how Dish has arranged the signals on the new downconverters and switch arrangements. I'd like to know exactly how the wiring will be set up? From what I thought I knew about the DishPro Plus gear all the bandwidth in both drops inside the house is consumed by the three downconverted signals from the three satellites. I didn't think there was enough bandwidth to handle four satellites on just two 950-2150 MHz cables?

I also noted that Echostar is calling the lower-power linear Ku-band on 121 and 105 a "new technology." The Dish installers had Spitfire FTA LNBF boxes in their truck with the rest of their Dish equipment.

Call them up and ask for must-carry local channels. No need to worry about what they'll need. In your case though and for your peace of mind, they'll use the DPP44 switch unless if they ran out of that they'll use DP21 switches for each and every receiver in conjunction with the DP34 switch. It's not that hard to add a must-carry dish to an existing SUPERDISH121 setup and add in a DPP44 switch. Just call DISH up and only thing you should worry about is that the tech. will show up on time. ;)

They'll add an additional line for 61.5 to where your DPP44 switch is at now. Or, they can put the DPP44 switch closer to the dishes and instead run 2 new cables: one for the 61.5 dish and one for your room that's not connected if you're using DP receivers and not DPPlus receivers. The second scenario is obviously much more difficult but in the event your current DP34 switch is in the home and running a line within your house is next to impossible, they'll run a new line from the outside of your home. Just ask the installer what they'll do before they actually work on the installation.

Thanks for the info! Sorry to ask too many questions but are there going to be only two cables going to each receiver? I have a dual-tuner 322 and a dual-tuner 625 with all four tuners activated. I think I understand that whatever LNBF the system wants the switch will swap in for whatever receivers want it so there would still be one cable per receiver.

To those considering a new receiver from Dish
