Motorized dish or a Toroidal dish?

A a fairly new entrant to this 'hobby' I thought I could offer another viewpoint to all the people saying 'go motorised' as it does depend on the situation. If you only want to feed one tv or have every TV recieve the same satellite then motorised is OK, as long as you do not mind the wait, and dont mind lower signal values due to having to set a best compromise on the lnb. If ther is a need for the maximum signal on each satellite or there is a need for more than on feed to be supplied (multiple rooms/dwellings etc) then toroidal has a major advantage. It is all though 'you pays your money and make your own choice'. Count yourself lucky though, as in NZ we only have a choicew of 7 satellites to get anyway :)
 
motoroized dish. unless you have many receivers that all want to watch something different. a motorized dish will give you way better perf then a T90 ever could
 
A possible problem with a Torodial 90, is those seven satellites need to be with-in 40-42 degrees of each other (a Torodial 55 is probably less than that?). And if three of them are side by side in 2 degree spacing, you probably won't get one of them?

Don't get me wrong, I use my T90 more than I do my motor. But, I still use my motor. So, I say it's best to have both.

Another choice, which you see a number of our members take, is multiple dishes.

In some cases, they put two or three LNBs on single dishes, but many members here are multi-dish users.
If some of those dishes are surplus, then you get the immediate switching of the T-90, and at lower cost.
Plus, you get to optimize each dish/LNB as necessary for a particular bird.
In some applications, a smaller dish or side-LNB is sufficient.

Most of us can't get 123° and 125° on one Ku dish, but 123° and 129° is fine.
Then you use another dish for 125°.
If you need 119° circular for NASA, that goes on the 125° dish.
It's just a matter of mapping out the sky for the satellites you want.
