I watched a couple of the British comedies on Montana PBS tonight and there is a black and white circle in the upper left corner of the screen. It only appears on the main feed. Anybody else notice that?

I did. It's been there for a couple of days now. I hope it goes away soon.

I only see that on the 12145 transponder which I think is going to be phased out. If you go to the new transponder that circule won't be there, although the signal strength seems to be lower :

Satellite: AMC-21, Ku Band (125 deg W)
Polarity: Vertical
Transponder: 20
Downlink Freq: 12104 MHz (effective 10/6/2008)
Symbol Rate: 4.3404 MS/s
Forward Error Correction (FEC): 3/4
Video Program Identifier (Video PID): 0033
Audio Program Identifier (Audio PID): 0038
PCR: 0033

I couldn't even get a lock on 12145 when I tried earlier. All the other transponders were in the 70 range. Yesterday it was fine.

Strange indeed...

One of my CS5000 receivers locked onto it at 12.144 and it has the black and white orb.

The other CS5000 locked onto it at 12.103 without the orb.

Both of my receivers are getting a Q between 70 and 80.

I just rescanned and it's still there on both feeds. I can't imagine the purpose of it but it sure is annoying.

its still mapped at 12145 because thats what it was on AMC3

12104 is suppose to be the "new" spot when the conversion is done

fitzbi

its at both spots

At this very moment, I have both receivers ON and on two separate TVs.

The orb is visible on one and not the other. I kid you NOT!
I watched PBS till the wee hours last night and never saw the black and white spot on the second CS5000. Can I be hallucinating on only one TV?

Very strange...

Also keep in mind that my second CS5000 is older and is a tad buggy compared to the newer one I have. It's quite possible it can't display the black and white orb.

same transponder?

I have version 1.00 in my 5000 and got one of the first boxes when they came out and I have that circle on one transponder but not the other

12145 yes
12104 no

12104 no

New box: 12144 Yes
Older box: 12103 No

The older box does pixelation and other strange things on occasion.
When I first got it, it had some undesirable channels preloaded on only 3 birds.
I suspect foul play. I deleted all the channels and blind scanned the arc to start over. However, I never reloaded the manufacturers bin file. Maybe I should try that and see if the bugs go away.

Is it my imagination or is the signal strength (quality) bouncing all over the place on these feeds? When I originally scanned them in they were hovering around 80-82%Q steady. Today 12140 & 12150 are down to 32-38%Q (and bouncing) and 12104 is non-existent. No changes in the dish settings. Originally I had scanned in all 4 PBS feeds, now I can only get two (12140 & 12150). This doesn't bode well. Why is there always a problem with PBS feeds? The analog feed on C-band has always had a sound problem and is the only TP on C-band that sparkles on my dish, the only one. NET can't seem to pick a good, reliable set of transponders (they're on their third bird in four years), OETA won't lock, Louisiana breaks up, and now Montana PBS can't seem to get any of it's feeds stabilized. I mean holy smokes, news trucks can lock an uplink in within minutes and feed a signal nationwide, these guys have been "testing" for weeks now and can't get one single solid feed going much less the subs. With the exception of White Springs I'm able to lock virtually everything else available on FTA. It's very frustrating.

Whew! Thanks, I needed that! :)

FTA -The Research Channel

what would I gain by upgrading from a 9' to 10' or 12'
