I have a DirecTV dish that I don't use any more. Here is what I want to do. Take off the DirecTV lnb, place the "y" adaptor for the DishPro twin lnb, then run it straight to my 301 receiver. Will this work? I'm trying to save some extra cash. thanks

Is the Direct dish the original 18"?

If so, nope

The Dish500 has a skew to look at both satellites. Since the 18" dishes dont have skew, it's gonna be hard to make it work (unless your skew is 90..wherever in the US that is) :)

skew is the clockwise or counter, correct

18 might be too small for both...20 is the standard Dish500

but since you cant skew it, you can set it up for one satellite (119)

i just checked out the installation guide from dishnetwork and it says with my zip code that my skew angle is 85. would that be good enough?

No, SDintolerant. You need a skewable dish... besides, the Y adapter actually makes the arm of the dish longer and the LNBs will not fall in the focus point of the dish. You will get almost no signal, even if you don't need to skew.

Is Boosting Signal Creating 811 Problems?

FamilyNet no longer on Dish Network
