He pitched for the Mets for like 8 seasons. Won World Series with them.He is a Met broadcaster.
Players throw much harder than the days of old! They had no sinker, slider, slerve, fork, or any others. They threw the ball, the curve and a fast ball was about it. The Knuckle ball was used a lot more also so a knuckleballer could last forever. Look at some of that old footage. Many just threw, and didnt pitch. What I will NEVER understand is how pitchers in the 1960’s and 70’s threw complete games more times that not, AND were generally a part of 4 man rotations. Most years throwing 300+ innings. Yes, there were pitchers with arm issues back then too, but not nearly as much as today. And sports medicine has also come a long way in 50-60 years. I just don’t get it.
As far as seeing future 300 game winners- that ship has sailed a loooooooooong time ago. Too many no decisions because of blown holds and saves, and not as many starts as pitchers had years ago.
How far back are YOU talking, 1950's ?Players throw much harder than the days of old! They had no sinker, slider, slerve, fork, or any others. Ill go back a little farther...But it was a big deal to get close to 90s(50s). Now if you dont throw 90 or more you get very little chances. They were first developing pitches in the 50s. In the 50s, 60s, part of the 70s. One arm injury your career was over. The invention of the Tommy John surgery was as big as knee surgery was about the same time. How far back are YOU talking, 1950's ?
Pitchers have had all those pitches for a long time.
Lots of times its a new name for the same pitch, depending on what era your talking.
I think a lot of that started to change in the early 70's.Ill go back a little farther...But it was a big deal to get close to 90s(50s). Now if you dont throw 90 or more you get very little chances. Now if you notice the elbow is taking the brunt of many arms where shoulders were the norm back then.
Just look how much the form has changed and the amount of power they develop from their legs! Thats why early on many pitchers were heavy set as that helped velocity...
If they play tonight, weather permitting it’s over.I'm gonna presume the yankees will win tonight, just can't see them going down 4 straight to thier Hated Enemy the Astros ....
Fortunately the storm is going north, not as much as if it was coming from the SW ...If they play tonight, weather permitting it’s over.
Games delayed.Fortunately the storm is going north, not as much as if it was coming from the SW ...
If it does rain, it may not last too long.
Someone pointed out to me that Ted Cruz is sitting behind home plate and now I can’t unsee it.
