Clay Buchholz makes his long awaited return tonight in St. Pete, after 3 months on the DL.

Red Sox-Rays pitching matchups:

tonight: Buchholz (9-0, 1.71) vs. David Price (8-7, 3.51)

Wednesday: Ryan Dempster (8-9, 4.79) vs. Alex Cobb (8-3, 2.77)

Thursday: Jake Peavy (11-5, 4.01) vs, Jeremy Hellickson (11-8, 5.04)

From what I heard on MLB Network, Bucholtz's fastball was about 3-4 mph down from where they would like it. It was running 89-90.
They were thinking that maybe he should have stayed down for another few starts to build up strength, then come up.

Yeah, he struggled in his rehabs starts. I think if this were May, June or July, they would have kept him down in Pawtucket for a few more starts. But being this late in the season, the Sox wanted to see what they have before lining up the postseason rotation. At least that's the feeling I get.

Dodgers are about to set the MLB single season record for most fans in combined home and road attendance

Buchholz is now 10-0 with an ERA of 1.6. He has four starts left. If he goes 14-0 with an ERA of about 1.6, can that win the Cy Young Award?

Why do teams which are already eliminated and playing against another team that is already eliminated, get all excited about getting a walk off win?

Have you ever played sports before??

What would you suggest they do instead, shake hands and walk off the field with their heads down??

There is no hiding the fact that the Angels are lower than whale s^&t in the ocean this season. But when I watch them (when I watch them :() I expect to see them play with just as much enthusiasm and pride as if they were 12 games atop the West with a magic number of 4. And I am proud to say that I do see that in them...especially Trout who is having another glorious year. We shall see the MVP argument of him vs. Miggy all over again this post season. And Trumbo is ending the season on a hugely positive note!

First, the whole celebrating with regular season walk-offs just started within this last generation. Second, when a game has no meaning as far as getting you closer to the playoffs, playing spoiler, reaching a milestone, or an individual or team accomplishment, this over the top celebrating seems a little excessive. They do not celebrate to the same extent when they close the game for the win on the defensive side.

Too much is being made about game winning celebrations. It's a game ... The ONLY difference between your kids playing it and MLB players playing it is age and one is a job. If you think the win was good for your moral or playoff chances and you wanna go nuts... More power to you.
