MLB 2012 Postseason

Tigers have been in a playoff mode since mid September. Having to battle hard to win the AL Central put them in good shape going into the playoffs. Team is built to win a 7 game series. Verlander in the bp for a game 7 is huge. I like the Tigers if it gets to game 7, but I really think that Giants will win it in 6. Uncle Mo is on their side right now.

Slow motion view of the rare 'triple hit', at :48....

They showed this on super slow mo on MLB this morning. The rule states that once a bat hits the ball a second time, the batter is automatically out. Only problem: there's no possible way anyone could see that at normal speed.

The rule has a comment that makes an exception for broken bats. So it is not an automatic out. And honestly, the way it's worded, it seems like the rule is designed to prevent players from throwing the bat at a batted ball and interfering with the play in that manner. It doesn't seem to contemplate the possibility of one swing causing multiple impacts with the ball.

The Giants get Scutaro from the Rockies. I do not see the point of this trade. They already have 3 Scutaro type players. If they need to improve their offense he is not going to help.

I agree. Marco is a good spare part, but nothing more than that.

Can't have enough spare parts I guess... Scutaro is a likely replacement for third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who could go on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The Giants are sticking with Brandon Crawford at shortstop and Ryan Theriot at second base.

...Scutaro is a smart move because Kung Fu Panda is having a good year but he's a little heavy. I think you need somebody with a little bit of speed...

Maybe Scutaro can be one of those "lightning in a bottle" pickups.

Like Jerry Adair.

Marco Scutaro takes long journey to NLCS MVP

SAN FRANCISCO — Fans labeled Marco Scutaro a super-sub in Oakland for all his fill-in roles. Others called him a Colorado castoff in July, and his new San Francisco Giants teammates nicknamed him "Blockbuster" for the often overlooked trade-deadline move.

Now he has a new title: NLCS MVP....

"Why can't we get guys like that?"

Yep.

The Giants always seem to get average players that step up their games in the playoffs. A couple of years ago it was Cody Ross and now it is Scutaro

Sorry, The batter is not out in this situation. Check rule 6.05(h) and look at the comments.

The Tigers definitely have an advantage in that their starting pitchers are well-rested and they can start the Series with their #1 pitcher in the rotation. That being said...all hell can break out when the games begin, and our bullpen has not been been less-than-stellar, to put it nicely. Looking forward to the experience.

My take on the World Series:

Offense: I think the Giants lineup is VERY underrated, but they simply don't have the bats to match the Tigers two headed monster. EDGE: Detroit

Defense: Neither team is spectacular, IMHO, but the Giants are better up the middle with Pagan, Crawford, Scutaro and Posey. EDGE: San Francisco

Starting Pitching: Two exceptional rotations, but I have to give the edge to the Tigers because of Verlander (this would be a push or even edge Giants if Lincecum was the Lincecum of old) EDGE: Detroit

Bullpen: I'm not really excited about either bullpen, but I would give the Giants a huge edge if "The Beard" wasn't on the DL. EDGE: Giants

PREDICTION: I realize that I picked the Giants to win the World Series at the beginning of this thread, but I think the Tigers will match up really well against them. TIGERS IN 6

Who' Uncle Mo?

I think the Tigers win this in 6 or 7 games. I think the Tigers have better starting pitching then the Giants but the Giants have a better bullpen. I would think that the lineups are about even. You have Kung Fu Panda, Scutaro etc. There lineup crushed Loshe last night. Im not saying Loshe is Bob Gibson but he went 16-3 this year but based on last night, you wouldnt know it.
The Tigers have Cabrera, Fielder and Delmon Young. Especially, Cabrera and Fielder are very dangerous. And the Tigers have JV to go games 1, 4 and 7. I think the Tigers will have to score early because I dont think they want to temp there bullpen. Phil Coke was fantastic in the ALCS but Im not touching Valverde unless its mop up duty.

I wish JV would pitch games 1, 4 and 7 but there is no way Leyland is going to pitch him on three days rest. He's be pitching games 1 and 5.

Tigers will go up 3-1 then lose in game 7 to the 2012 World Champs S.F Giants.

Hey it can happen cant it.. ask the Reds and Cards :D

I REALLY wish they would go back to a 4 man rotation .... of course I say that every year, I'm not sure why teams went to a 5 man rotation in the first place seeing the lack of quality Starting Pitching in MLB

Who's Uncle Mo? Really? Momentum! No Lay off, 1st 2 games at home with that crowd. Giants will get off to the big start, winning a close game against JV, then breaking it out in game 2.

Always nice to see the GOOD things NFL players do
